Kate looked chic in a red sequin Needle and Thread gown according to The Mirror. The dress is estimated to be more than £400($521). Prince William looked classic in a suit and tie.

The royal event comes after the couple announced they will be visiting Ireland. Sources told the tabloid that Buckingham Palace hopes William and Kate's visit in Ireland will distract from Meghan and Harry's stepping back from royal duties.

At the event, William did mention Harry in a speech despite Harry admitting last year to feuding with William. "My grandmother is sorry not to be here this evening, but she has asked me to pass on her warmest wishes to you all," William said. "The African continent holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died."

A royal expert told Express, that Kate and William will likely be carrying the burden of royal functions after Meghan and Harry step down. "Since there are some 230 which are effectively without a patron now that the Duke of York(Prince Andrew) has stepped down from royal duties and is unlikely ever to return to them, the likelihood is that William and Kate will take on more."

Although the Queen issued a statement saying the Sussexes "will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations" they cannot formally represent The Queen. However royal experts believe Meghan and Harry will not be able to keep up. "Meghan and Harry claim they want to carry on their patronages and time will tell how practical this is," the source said.

In the Queen's statement, she shared how it was Meghan and Harry's "wish" that they "repay the Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home."

In the final sentences of the Queen's statement, she commended Meghan on how easily she became part of the royal family. "I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family," Her Majesty said.

"It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."
