Although the daughter of a Hollywood star, Hudson explained to Glamour how her love for acting didn't steam from her parents' success.

"There's a misconception that if you come from famous parents, you're seeking fame for the sake of fame," she told the outlet.

"I see it as the opposite: Growing up with parents who were in the spotlight—it was almost like, wow, if I didn't love to create characters, I would run as far away from fame as I could get," she said. "But I love performing."

Having a famous mother didn't make Hudson strive for the spotlight, but it showed her how to balance her career and family effectively.

"…I always remember my mom saying that there's only one thing in life she refused to fail at: raising her children," she recalled. "It just shows you it's very possible to do the thing that makes you happy and still raise a wonderful family."

During an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Kate and her brother, Oliver Hudson, shared how despite their fame, their parent focused on instilling the importance of family within their childhood home.

"Look the impression is, of course, we are from famous parents – it's not an impression, it's a fact," Oliver said. "But within the four walls, it was a very normal family. Because they came from where they came from – which was nothing – they understood that and wanted to instill those values."

"They shared that value. They both had kids from other [relationships] and we became this melting pot of a family," Kate echoed. "Other than obviously balancing their own careers, it became their life purpose: We will have the best family."

Kate Hudson learned a lot from her mother. Hudson told People that her Oscar-winning mother inspired elements of her parenting style. One of the largest influences Hudson incorporates into her parenting style is family time with no distractions.

"It's one of those things that I think there are really amazing things about technology, but I just don't want to lose that with my own kids – the importance of putting all that away," she told People. "When kids are bored, they think of the most amazing things to do. My mom used to say that."

Hudson added, "I remember, I used to say, 'Oh, I'm bored.' And [my mom would] be like, 'Good, be bored. Figure something else to do. Figure something out. As I had my own kids, I realized it's really good for them to be bored and … just spark their imagination."

The "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" star describes her parenting style as "strict."

"Where I am strict is that there are certain rules that I put down," she told People. I don't negotiate with my kids about certain things."

"And what I realized about that is that when you set that standard in your home, you don't end up in long-winded negotiations," Hudson adds. "When I say no, it's done."

In an interview with Health, the actress emphasized teaching her children the difference between privilege and entitlement.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's what you're entitled to and then there's your privileges," she said. "The only things you're entitled to are a roof over your head, food, and my love."

"Everything else is a privilege," Hudson said. "And I'll take it away in a heartbeat if you're not respecting our home's moral compass."
