Kate Hudson’s Choice To Positively Co-Parent Her 3 Kids With Their Dads Was Inspired By Her Childhood

Kate Hudson is Hollywood royalty. The award-winning actress is the daughter of Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and actor and comedian Bill Hudson. Hawn rose to international fame in 1968 when she portrayed the role of the dumb blond in the sketch comedy show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In."

Born to famous parents, Hudson began acting on stage at the age of 11. She later made her film debut in 1998 when she portrayed Kate Davidson in "Desert Blue."

Her breakthrough role came two years later when she played the role of a groupie in Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical dramedy "Almost Famous." Hudson received the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her dazzling performance in Crowe's film. She quickly became the "it” girl of the 2000s.

Screen Rant crowned Hudson as the queen of romantic comedies for her charming performances in "Bride Wars," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Raising Helen." Ranked in the top three best roles of her career are Penny Lane in "Almost Famous," Eleanor Strubing in "Marshall," and Felicia Williams, the wife of Mike Williams (played by Mark Wahlberg) in "Deepwater Horizon."

Despite her reign as the Queen of Romantic Comedies in the 2000s, the Golden Globe-winning actress has a diverse filmography showcasing her limitless talents.

While Hudson has been incredibly blessed with her career throughout the years, her love life was quite tumultuous for a while. Hudson is now the mother of three children, each from three different fathers. Others might say that setup is bound to fail, but like the superwoman she is, Hudson proves that she would do anything just to give her children the sense of a complete family that they deserve.

In December 2000, Hudson married The Black Crowes frontman, Chris Robinson. Four years after, she gave birth to her first son, Ryder. However, in 2006, Hudson’s publicist announced that the two had separated. Later that year, they filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, granting both parents joint custody.

Years after, Hudson began dating Matt Bellamy, the frontman of the English rock band Muse. They became engaged in April 2011 and welcomed her second child Bingham, three years after. While many expected that the couple’s romance would last until eternity, they broke off their engagement in December 2014. Their relationship did not end badly as they revealed later on that they are co-parenting their son.

In Hudson’s third attempt at love, she began to date musician Danny Fujikawa in 2016. Two years later, Hudson announced that she was expecting her third child and her first with Fujikawa. Giving birth to her first princess, Rani in 2018, Hudson named her daughter after Fujikawa’s father, Ron. In September 2021, the couple finally announced their engagement after dating for five years, People Magazine reported.

After surviving a divorce, a custody battle, and a called-off engagement, Hudson remains hopeful in her pursuit of love. Turns out, her dedication to instilling the importance of family in her children came from her mother, Hawn, who had been a spectacular mother to her and her brothers.

"I always remember my mom saying that there's only one thing in life she refused to fail at: raising her children," she confessed to Glamour Magazine in an interview. "It just shows you it's very possible to do the thing that makes you happy and still raise a wonderful family."

Hudson has emulated her mother a lot. It is her dedication to raising her children despite the weight of the spotlight, and her overflowing love for them that kept Hudson doing the same thing for her kids.

"They shared that value. They both had kids from other (relationships) and we became this melting pot of a family," Hudson told "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "Other than obviously balancing their own careers, it became their life purpose: We will have the best family."

But it seems like the love she got from her mother isn't the only thing that fuels Hudson to keep her family intact. She's made it clear that her children are able to see their fathers comfortably. In another interview with Glamour Magazine, Hudson became candid and revealed her innermost thoughts and feelings about her previous relationships:

"Relationships ending are painful, and you can choose to carry that or you can choose to reframe it. If Matt and I had a great relationship, we would still be together, but we chose to move on because we had different visions of how we wanted to live our lives," she said.

But despite going on separate journeys with the father of one of her children, Hudson is sure that she wants to give her kids the best family possible, even if it's complicated.

"We said, 'We need to try to create something for the kids where they feel like they're gaining something rather than losing something,'" she told the magazine. "Being someone who has come from a broken family and has a stepfather ... I really benefited from having that very consistent (presence) in my life. And it's something I am mindful of and want in my life."
