Kate Hudson Shared An Emotional Message About Her 'Pa' Kurt Russell, Honoring Him

Kate Hudson belongs to one of Hollywood's favorite families — her mom is actress Goldie Hawn while her stepdad is Kurt Russell. The couple has been together since 1983 after initially meeting in 1966 while filming together. However, they reconnected on the set of their film "Swing Shift," and have been inseparable ever since, even going on to star in further movies together after becoming romantically involved. However, the couple never chose to get married. 

They each brought children into their partnership, Hawn with Oliver and Kate Hudson, and Russell with Boston Russell, who he shares with ex-wife Season Hubley. Together, the couple shares a son, Wyatt Russell. With many of the kids following their parents into acting, the showbiz family is often seen supporting each other at premieres or spending quality time together, some of which they share on social media. 

With such a large and mixed family, one would wonder how everyone gets along, but photos on social media from Hawn and Hudson show that the family continues to be extremely close even today. Even though Russell is not Hudson's biological father, Hudson has repeatedly shown that the love she shares with her "pa" is strong and unwavering. 

Hudson posted a wonderful tribute to Hurt on Father's Day and glows about her "pa" once more. On June 19, 2022, Hudson celebrated her step-father Russell, and the words she has reserved for her father are sure to make anyone's heart swell with emotion. It goes to show that Russell is not just one of the most famous husbands in the entertainment industry but also one of the most loving fathers. 

Hudson's own childhood is an inspiration and guide for how she wants to raise her daughter. E! News reported that Hudson said, "My whole life has been boys. I have three brothers, I have two sons, I have two nephews, and one beautiful little niece. It's really been me and Mommy with a whole bunch of boys," She added about having a daughter, "I'm excited about the balance. I was excited for my boys as I am for my girl, but at least now, if I have another baby, it really won't matter what the gender is at all. At least I have one girl!"

Hudson has two older children — her eldest child Ryder, who is 19 and whose father is rock musician Chris Robinson, and Bingham, her second child, who is 11 years old and whose dad is another rock musician, Matt Bellamy of the band Muse. 

She also has a 4-year-old daughter named Rani Rose with musician Danny Fujikawa. Hudson was sure to honor her current partner for all he does as a father to their youngest and father figure to her two older kids. She posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, "Happy Father's Day to one amazing Daddy. We love you so much!"

Hudson's experience with fatherly figures is something she has held close to her heart, especially her relationship with Russell. Her mother Hawn spoke with PEOPLE back in December 2020 about how great Russell has always been at caring for her kids. She said:

"I think he's one of the great actors of all time. And he's a fantastic father. So I win because I can think exactly what I love about him."

As a blended family, Russell wanted to ensure that he was a great father figure to Hawn's children. This was a conscious choice on the part of the couple, as Russell said in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2018:

"Everyone has their marker on what is really important and where you draw the line. For Goldie and me, that core value was this: the kids come first. That big movie I turned down came at an age when they really needed one of us around."

With parents like this who put their kids first, it is no wonder that the entire Hawn and Russell family is so close. Hudson also spoke about how important her parents are to her in an interview with PEOPLE in 2020. "Mom is kinetic and she is a butterfly," she said. "And Pa likes his family and his home. But when they're together, it's so powerful." 

It's not surprising to see that Hudson wanted to celebrate her relationship with her non-biological father for Father's Day in June 2022. The actress took to Instagram with a picture of her and Russell sharing a sweet moment together. She captioned the photo:

"Fun, adventurous, passionate, determined, honest, devoted, amazing father and the best head of hair in Los Angeles! Lucky us! Love you Pa! Happy Father's Day."

Hawn commented on the post to explain that Russell was overcome with emotions. He said, "All that water seems to somehow have found its way into my eyes…"

Hawn also commended Russell for all he does for their family with her own Instagram post, saying, "How can I explain the gratitude and love I feel for the greatest father who has given us all so much in this life."
