Kate Hudson's Son Ryder Is All Grown Up And Dating Another Child Of Famous Hollywood Parents

Goldie Hawn is a beaming ray of sunshine in Hollywood. The 76-year-old actress has graced our screens since the late 1960s when she impressed audiences with her Oscar-winning turn in "Cactus Flower." After that, she appeared in many beloved movies throughout the next few decades and to this day, she continues to work.

Meanwhile, off-screen, her enduring nearly four-decade-long relationship with Kurt Russell, 72, has warmed our hearts. Their adorable and loving relationship is the sweetest, with the obvious affection they have for each other more akin to a group of teenage sweethearts than a couple that's been together for 37 years!

While the couple continued working prolifically in Hollywood after they got together, they also placed a lot of importance on family. Their blended family consists of children they each brought to their union from their previous marriages, as well as one son they had together. Three of their four children actually followed their famous parents into acting — Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson, whom Hawn had with her ex-husband Bill Hudson, and Wyatt Russell, the couple's own biological child together.

Most of their children have since had kids of their own, which has only added to the large family dynamic that the couple has cultivated. Oliver has three kids of his own, Wyatt has one and Kate has three. Her eldest son Ryder, whom she had with her first husband Chris Robinson, turned 18 at the start of 2022 and is now all grown up. Kate celebrated the occasion with a moving post on her Instagram. What's more, Ryder recently went Instagram official with his girlfriend, Iris Apatow — yes that's Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann's daughter! Let's take a look.

Hawn needs no introduction. Born on Nov. 21, 1945, in Washington, D.C., the future actress had one sister growing up and was raised Jewish. She began taking dance lessons from the age of three and even appeared in a few stage productions as a child.

By the time she was 19, she ran and taught at a ballet school, after she'd dropped out of studying drama at university. She worked as a professional dancer before she moved to Los Angeles in 1966, where she worked as a dancer and played small roles in television. Her dance background clearly helped her establish a strong presence when performing, which worked to her advantage in her career.

Following her move to Los Angeles, Hawn didn't go unnoticed for long and soon she was seen as an "It" girl of the '60s. After she worked in television for a few years, she switched to movies, with one of her first roles in the 1969 film "Cactus Flower," which earned her an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress. This set her career in motion and by her mid-20s, Hawn had already begun to make her name in Hollywood.

Over the next few decades, her filmography would grow to include all kinds of films, but her specialty was in comedy. She was also nominated one more time for an Oscar in 1981 for "Private Benjamin," but lost. Other well-known roles of hers include "Shampoo," "Overboard," "Bird on a Wire," "Death Becomes Her," "The First Wives Club," "The Out-of-Towners," "The Banger Sisters" and many more.

Hawn's romantic history tells as much a story of her life as her professional career does. Her first marriage was to a dancer named Gus Trikonis, whom she married in 1969. By 1973, however, the couple had split up. She was involved with a few different men before she met and married Bill, a singer who was part of the Hudson Brothers. The couple was married in 1976 and had two children together, Oliver and Kate before they divorced in 1980.

It was then in 1983 that she and fellow actor Kurt began dating. But it wasn't the first time they'd met — in fact, their history is what makes their love story all the more wonderful. Initially, the pair met in 1966 on the set of a Disney movie titled "The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band," but it would be nearly two decades later when they worked together on the movie "Swing Shift" in 1983 that they got together. It seems their age difference was the problem when they first met, as Hawn said much later in a BBC interview:

"I was 21 and he was 16. I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor so it just shows you never can tell."

After getting together, the couple became inseparable and even starred in more movies together, including 1987's "Overboard," which was a big hit, as well as other movies later in their careers.

Kurt's path to stardom was a little different than Hawn's. The son of actor and professional baseball player Bing Russell, Kurt had his Hollywood debut at a very young age, when he appeared in an uncredited role in the 1963 film "It Happened at the World's Fair" at the age of 12.

He spent his teen years as a child actor before he landed a 10-year contract with The Walt Disney Company in 1966. Infamously, Walt Disney wrote the words "Kurt Russell" on a piece of paper just before he died. Kurt's time working for Disney made him the "studio's top star of the '70s," according to Robert Osborne. By the '70s, Kurt worked frequently in Hollywood, however, he did take time off to play professional baseball, just like his father had. An injury ended his professional career and saw Kurt continue to act.

At this point, his career was firmly rooted in action movies, which earned him the status of a Hollywood hunk. He had a fruitful collaboration with horror director John Carpenter in the early '80s and began to be nominated for acting awards for his work, including a Golden Globe Award and Emmy Award, however, he did not win.

Before he began his relationship with Hawn in 1983, Kurt was married to actress Season Hubley for a few years, with whom he had a son named Boston Russell. Famously, Hawn and Kurt brought their children from their previous marriages together and started their blended family. In 1986 the couple had a child of their own, Wyatt, which brought their brood of kids to four.

However, although family is of the utmost importance to the couple, one interesting thing about their relationship is that they've never chosen to get married. Hawn openly discussed the topic in a 2007 interview with Woman's Day magazine. Asked why they won't head down the aisle, Hawn responded:

"Because we have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we're fine."

She went on to mention their children and how they've managed to raise them into "beautiful people," as she added:

"We did a great job there and we didn't have to get married to do that. I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry."

Considering theirs is one of Hollywood's longest-lasting relationships, they've clearly proven their point that marriage is unnecessary as long as there is love, respect and mutual compassion towards one another. Kurt even weighed in on the topic in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2018, as he said:

"Everyone has their marker on what is really important and where you draw the line. For Goldie and me, that core value was this: the kids come first. That big movie I turned down came at an age when they really needed one of us around."

They clearly know what it takes to make a relationship and family dynamic work, even amid the uncertainty of a Hollywood lifestyle.

On the topic of family, it's perhaps unsurprising to learn that most of Hawn and Kurt's children have followed their famous acting parents into show business — everyone except for Boston has followed in the family business!

Oliver is the eldest of their kids and he's established a solid acting career in Hollywood for over two decades. What's more, he's incredibly handsome and takes after both his biological father and his gorgeous mom. In fact, Oliver's beaming, warm smile and sparkling eyes are clearly inherited from Hawn! Wyatt is also an actor, who's starred in the Disney+ series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."

And probably the most famous of the couple's children is Kate, their only daughter. Kate made a splash in Hollywood at the tender age of 21, when she won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Oscar for her turn in the film "Almost Famous." In the following decade, she dominated Hollywood when she was a leading actress in everything from comedies to horror. Since then she continues to work as an actress but has also branched out into her own fitness brand.

Nowadays, Oliver, Kate and Wyatt all have children of their own, and it seems that Hawn and Kurt absolutely love being grandparents! Oliver is married to actress Erinn Bartlett and together they have three kids. Wyatt and his wife Meredith Hagner only married in 2019 and welcomed their first child together in 2021. Meanwhile, Kate is a mother to three children, each from different partners. Her eldest child Ryder is with her ex-husband, her second son Bingham is with another musician, Matt Bellamy and her daughter Rani Rose is with her fiancé Danny Fujikawa. Let's take a look at Ryder's journey and how he's all grown up these days.

Born on Jan. 7, 2004, Ryder holds a special spot in his mom's heart as her firstborn. He also happens to be his grandma and grandpa's first grandchild — it must be wild for them to think that he's now a young adult! After Kate split up with Robinson in 2007, the two co-parented Ryder amicably. She said on the podcast “Divorce Sucks! With Laura Wasser” in March 2019:

“When you get divorced, you’re still in a relationship. It’s just a different kind of relationship. You’re going to have good days, you’re going to have bad days, you’re going to have good weeks, bad weeks.”

However, later that year she told Closer Weekly that the arrangement she and her husband share with their son works well. She said:

“Ryder can float between either parent as long as it doesn’t interfere with school."

Ever the doting mom, Kate often shares photos of her children on social media, and now that Ryder is a young man himself, he also has an Instagram account of his own. His account boasts over 85,000 followers and on it, Ryder posts photos with his family, friends and his travels, among other things.

But let's go back in time to when the world first got a glimpse of the handsome young man. In his early years, Ryder was well known for having long hair, which emulated his father's rockstar hairdo. Even at the tender age of 1, the tot had long blond locks. It appears he kept the long 'do for his first few years before he cut it to around ear length around the age of 5 or so.

Even with a new shorter hairdo around that time, Ryder still looked very rock'n'roll, as he sported band shirts and loose pants. Then, around the age of 12, Ryder began to attend premieres with his mom. He was pictured looking incredibly dapper when he attended the "Kung Fu Panda 3" premiere in 2016 with his mom. He wore a lilac button-down shirt and pants, but he kept his rock'n'roll edge by pairing his outfit with Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers.

The following year he was photographed on the red carpet with more members of his family, including his beloved grandparents, his mom and his uncle Wyatt. Knowing how close their family is, it's no surprise they were all smiles on the red carpet!

Last year, Kate posted a photo on her Instagram while she and her family were on vacation. In it, she, Ryder and her fiancé sat on a boat as they enjoyed the sunshine. Ryder's hair was a little longer once again — back to ear length — and his resemblance to his gorgeous mom was more clear than ever. If it weren't for his brown hair, he'd look exactly like his mom!

More recently, Ryder attended the premiere of Stella McCartney x The Beatles: "Get Back" launch with Kate in Nov. 2021. As he wore Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers once again, he towered over her, proving that he well and truly is all grown up. Kate said on The Rachael Ray Show in 2019:

“I used to dream about that day, like, ‘One day, Honey, I’m going to be looking up to you.' The other day, he gave me a hug and I almost burst into tears (because he’s so tall). It’s crazy, it’s amazing, it’s beautiful.”

Not only is Ryder taller than his mom now but he's also now an official adult after he celebrated his 18th birthday in January. Kate marked the occasion with a moving Instagram post that featured photos from when she was pregnant with him all the way until recently. She captioned the post:

"And then he was 18 ❤️ My heart is filled with love and excitement for your future. Ryder you incredible, unique, hilarious, loving human, I love you beyond. Happiest Birthday @mr.ryderrobinson PS Now your life is your responsibility and outta my hands! Good luck son!!! 🤪🙏😉🥰🎂"

One follower pointed out that children's lives are never really out of their moms' hands, to which Kate cheekily replied, "🤫 we're supposed to let them think otherwise😉." Ryder is proving to be a stand-up young man who's very close with his family and he also just revealed that he has a special young lady in his life too. Coinciding with Valentine's Day in February, Ryder went Instagram official with his girlfriend Iris. He shared two photos of them in which he's giving her a big smooch on the cheek with a red heart as the caption.

Iris also comes from a Hollywood family — her dad Judd is a writer, director and producer responsible for hit movies such as "Knocked Up" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," while Mann, her mom, is a leading lady in comedies such as "This Is 40" and "George of the Jungle." Furthermore, her sister Maude Apatow has been making waves on the hit teen show "Euphoria." Iris, Kate, Maude and Mann all commented on Ryder's post with emojis and words of endearment. Now that he's all grown up and is in a Hollywood relationship, it will be exciting to see what Ryder does next!
