Kaia Gerber Only Realized Her Mom, Cindy Crawford, Was Famous On A Visit To Disneyland

Cindy Crawford is one of the original ’90s supermodels and not only does her legacy live on today, but she’s actually still modeling! While her star will never wane, Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber has taken the modeling world by storm in recent years, proving that beauty and modeling talent really does run in the family. What’s more, Kaia is the spitting image of her mother in her heyday!

A strong family resemblance is nothing unusual, even among celebrities. But when your mom happens to be a supermodel, one could say Crawford’s offspring got very lucky! Crawford has two children with her husband, Rande Gerber, a 23-year-old son named Presley Gerber and a 21-year-old daughter named Kaia.

Both children take after their parents’ stunning good looks — they are a very photogenic family indeed — but it’s Kaia who’s followed in her mom’s footsteps and is turning her good looks into a career. I mean, if you looked like your mom Cindy Crawford, you would too!

Considering she’s only 21 years old, Kaia has already taken the fashion industry by storm, appearing in numerous fashion shows, magazines, advertisements, and more already in her short career. In fact, in 2018, Kaia actually won the Model of the Year at The Fashion Awards.

Like many celebrity children, Kaia did not realize that her mother was immensely famous not until a quick trip to Disneyland showed her the magic that her mom possessed!

It’s clear from first glance that Kaia strongly takes after her mom, as they both bear the same deep-set chocolate eyes, luscious lips, and statuesque figures. The pair seem very close, with Crawford often posting on Instagram about her daughter’s achievements. 

It is undeniable that Kaia looks up to her mother for inspiration and motivation to excel in the same industry as her. The mother-daughter duo is often photographed spending time together, proving that their connection really is genuine. 

In an interview with Teen Vogue in 2017, Kaia attributed the wisdom and discerning knowledge she has learned from her parents, who have supported her in her chosen career in life. 

“My parents have always taught me to be myself and to follow my instincts. They also say that you should never let what other people do affect what you want to do. It changes everything when you accept who you are and you don’t try to change yourself,” she told the publication. 

At an early age, Kaia already understood the value of her influence and her platform, noting that she also wanted to be an inspiration to other young women like her mother was to her. 

“It is so key to me to be a good role model for young girls and someone their mom would want them to look up to,” she emphasized. “I now reach so many people, and it’s hard for them to know what is real. I don’t take any platform I have lightly. It’s so important to send a good message.”

Kaia has amassed more than almost 9 million followers on her Instagram account and has walked for luxury brands like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Coach, Prada, Chanel, Fendi, Valentino, and Versace, all at the young age of 21.

Growing up with a celebrity supermodel mom like Crawford, Kaia, like many celebrity babies, had a hard time understanding the concept of fame. 

Kaia spent her childhood away from the glitz and glamor of the paparazzi of Hollywood. Living in an isolated and intimate community in Malibu, Kaia and Presley had both of their parents with them growing up. Although their parents were busy people, Kaia described to Teen Vogue that they would separate their busy work life and home life the best way they could possibly do it. 

Elsewhere in the same interview, Kaia recalled the moment she finally understood who her mother was. It was until a birthday trip to an amusement park that it finally dawned on her. 

“I think it was only on my eighth birthday, at Disneyland, that I started to understand what was going on. I wanted to take pictures with the princesses, and everyone wanted to take pictures with her!” she revealed to the magazine.

From then on, Kaia has taken huge influence from her mother, especially since she entered the same competitive industry as her. Like her mother, Kaia debuted on the modeling stage at 16 years old, making Calvin Klein the first brand she walked for. 

In another Vogue interview, Kaia confessed that her mom was probably her biggest inspiration. 

“If anyone had a point of reference, I definitely did and one of the best ones. For me (modeling) wasn’t a foreign world to go into and I felt like I understood it. I knew what I was kind of getting into,” she said.
