Ever since her passing last Oct. 4, 2022, tributes for country music icon Loretta Lynn have been pouring, recognizing her legacy and the inspiration she has brought forth to the newer generation of country music artists.
Lynn was considered a pillar of country music in the United States. According to the Associated Press, she died peacefully in her sleep at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
“Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, Oct. 4, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement. They asked for privacy as they grieved and said a memorial would be announced later,” the Lynn Family said in a statement at the time.
Her journey in music career was one of the most memorable origin stories of music icons as she managed to rise from the rubble being an actual “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Way before launching her illustrious music career, Lynn already had the backing of her loving family, composed of her four children at the time.
Launching in the early 1960s, Lynn was one of the many women at the time who paved the way for more female artists both in the country genre and in the music industry in general.
At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Lynn was given a special tribute in an “In Memoriam” segment. She was honored alongside Christine McVie, Naomi Judd, Olivia Newton-John, and David Crosby, among many others. Country music superstar Kacey Musgraves performed an emotional rendition of Lynn’s most loved song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

As a singer and songwriter, Lynn inspired many people to follow her path toward a career in country music and also gave fans ample amounts of amazing songs and records. One of those artists that Lynn inspired was Musgraves.
Musgraves’ tribute to Lynn at the Grammys was particularly special. In the past, the two have already shared the stage together, singing the latter’s iconic hits.
In 2014 at the Country Music Association Awards ceremony, Musgraves hit the stage and delivered a soulful performance of Lynn’s 1971 hit “You’re Lookin’ At Country Together.”
Since then, the two’s friendship has grown closer – that is why when Lynn passed away on October 2022, Musgraves was the first pick of The Recording Academy to offer the legend a tribute at the Grammys “In Memoriam” segment.
To make the tribute more special, Musgraves used her idol’s 1963 Epiphone acoustic guitar, decked with the icon’s name on the fretboard.
Lynn’s family has expressed their gratitude for Musgraves’ nostalgic and moving performance. In a Tweet using the late icon’s account, Lynn’s children thanked the singer for the “beautiful tribute.”
A day after the Grammy broadcast, Musgraves took to Twitter and shared photos of her performance, sharing with her followers the impact that the late country music singer has brought to her career.
“10 year old me singing Loretta’s songs would never have imagined I’d be putting my hands right where she made magic for decades. (Her 1963 Epiphone was a dream to play.) Thank you to @LorettaLynn’s daughters for trusting me with this moment of honor tonight. She paved my path,” she said.
According to KHAK, Musgraves was also present at the attended Lynn’s public memorial in Nashville, where she also performed a tribute.
