Justin Timberlake Given Honorary Doctorate From Berklee: 'I'm A Doctor '

Justin Timberlake is a modern-day Hollywood legend. The pop singer has led a celebrated career, starting out as a performer on The Mickey Mouse Club and then rising to fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC in the 90s.

After leaving NSYNC, Timberlake launched a successful solo career, with hits such as “Rock Your Body” and “Cry Me a River” lighting up the airwaves and dance floors throughout the world. Timberlake has even started a successful acting career, most notably with his role in the 2012 drama The Social Network.

Despite all the success and fame, Timberlake has achieved in his amazing career, he most recently attained one of his most prized accomplishments. Last weekend, Berklee College of Music conferred an honorary doctorate on the pop sensation.

The Massachusetts college also conferred honorary doctorates on Alex Lacamoire, who composed the score for Hamilton, and rapper Missy Elliot.

During a speech Timberlake gave after receiving the degree, the singer couldn’t hide his joy, exclaiming “I’m a doctor.” Timberlake joked that he had a big ego before, and that the degree would only add to his over the top personality.

During a more serious part of his speech, the pop singer confessed that throughout most of his life, he felt like a weirdo. Scanning the commencement hall, Timberlake told of how he no longer felt like an outsider, saying that he had found his fellow weirdos.

Timberlake soon turned emotional as he began talking about all the people who have inspired him throughout the years. Particularly, Timberlake praised his wife, actress Jessica Biel, and his mother, Lynn Bomar Harless, for always being there for him.

Talking about his wife, Timberlake called Biel a constant inspiration. Saying that while he could not tell the people in attendance to get married, he did suggest that everyone should find someone who is better than them and spend their lives with that person.

Addressing his mother directly, Timberlake said that she has his undying love and that he could never repay her for all the opportunities she gave him through her selfless sacrifices.

Timberlake next advised the graduates to not fear failure. The pop star said that failure does not define anyone. Instead, what you do after you fail is what defines each person. Continuing, Timberlake noted that people have to be willing to fail and that a failure can lead to your next major success.

Timberlake closed his speech by telling the graduates that he hopes to see them in the studio in the future and that he will represent the college to the best of his ability.

Later that weekend, Timberlake celebrated his honorary degree on social media. The singer told those who follow him on Instagram to never stop chasing their dreams and that anyone can realize even the biggest dreams.

Timberlake also expressed his gratitude to Berklee College, saying that being given an honorary degree from the institution was an incredibly humbling experience.

Biel later commented on the post, joking that Timberlake’s doctoral cap was his most impressive look yet. Biel was also photographed sharing a tender kiss with Timberlake at the school’s commencement concert.
