June will be an exciting month for stargazers. Jupiter, the 5th planet from the Sun and largest planet in our solar system, will be visible throughout the whole month. Jupiter will be so close to Earth that all you'll need is a pair of binoculars to see it in the night sky.

Jupiter is going to be cozying up to Earth this month. Each year, Jupiter reaches opposition where the Sun, Earth, and Jupiter arrange in a straight line according to NASA. It's supposedly the best time in the year to see Jupiter because it's during the span of when Jupiter gets closest to Earth. This year, Jupiter will reach opposition on June 10th, but don't worry, you can observe the planet all month long.

Some other planets that will be visible in the month of June are Mercury and Mars. The two planets will be getting close together and will be able to be seen right after sunset on June 17th and June 18th. If you have a good view of the western horizon you should be able to see the planets cuddling up together. Note: The farther north you are the lower in the sky Mercury and Mars will be.

In mid-June look to the starry skies to see the spectacular trio of Jupiter, Saturn, and the moon all lined up. NASA says, "From about June 14th to the 19th look for the moon to form a beautiful lineup in the sky with Jupiter and Saturn that changes each night as the moon moves in its orbit around Earth."
