As one of the most successful musicals of all-time, The Sound of Music feels like a gift that keeps on giving. Not only did this iconic tale set a precedent for Hollywood films to come, but it also provided one of the most iconic soundtracks to come out of the 20th century.

However, there are some who might not be as enthralled with the movie as others. At least, this was supposed to be the case with Julie Andrews, the actress who played the lead role of Maria Rainer. Andrews has been quite candid about difficult moments on the production, causing many people to believe that she did not value being a part of the movie at all.

This isn't the entire story, though. When confronted recently about it by James Corden, Julie Andrews decided to tell the real story about what actually upset her about the filming of The Sound of Music

As it turns out, filming the movie was more difficult than many people have made it out to be! Andrews opened up to Corden about the incredibly rainy and dirty conditions that the actors and actresses had to work through.

Even though the film is well-known for its sprawling landscapes and wonderful sunshine, the crew actually had to traverse some very unfriendly territory to get to those beautiful shots. Julie Andrews even remembers one of the local farmers being so upset with the production that he actively tried to sabotage it in order to get the production company to leave the area.

Despite this, Andrews wanted to clarify that she has many good memories of making the movie. There were many friendly locals that would provide the crew with camaraderie and kindness, contextualizing the experience as a positive one.

Though there were difficult moments involved to make the film, Andrews is also happy that she persevered and was able to make a truly timeless classic.
