Julia Roberts has entered a new chapter of motherhood, and she is embracing it with the same warmth and humor that have defined so much of her public life. The actress, now an empty nester, recently shared how it feels to have all three of her children officially out of the house.

During her October 2025 appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Roberts reflected on the transition with surprising joy. “It's all fun, honestly,” she said. “It's also delicious. My kids – I know everyone thinks their kids are great, well... I think my kids are great.”

She went on to explain that even though the kids have moved out, they still visit often, adding, “I love hanging out with them and spending time with them. Fortunately, we have had lots of visits along the way of this empty nest.”

With the house now quieter, Roberts has begun thinking about what comes next for her creatively.

In a conversation with People Magazine, she shared a new desire that has surfaced in this stage of her life. “I think I'd like to do another play,” she said. “Now that my kids are out of the house, I think that I could devote that kind of laser focus again to something like that because (that’s) such a different kind of commitment to make than a film.”

For Roberts, the shift wasn’t about filling space but rediscovering the parts of herself she put on hold while raising her children.

Her reflections as a newly minted empty nester framed the moment she found herself celebrating another milestone – one that left her feeling both amazed and sentimental. What she shared next about her twins turning 21 offered a heartfelt look at how quickly the years have passed.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 Gotham Film Awards, Roberts opened up about what it felt like to see her twins, Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, reach adulthood.

“It’s amazing. It’s astonishing,” she said. “I mean, watching any child, but particularly your own children grow up and just ... listening to their point of view of the world and things.”

Her words reflected the pride and awe familiar to so many parents as they watch their children step into independence.

To mark the twins’ 21st birthday, Roberts shared a touching throwback photo on Instagram. In the caption, she wrote:

“These game changers, life alterers, ❤️expanders once were 1 and now are 21! That was fast 😭 Happy Birthday my Dears 🎉💥⚡🎁”

Fans quickly filled the post with warm messages, celebrating the milestone alongside her.

Roberts’s perspective on motherhood has always been grounded in gratitude. In her 2022 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she spoke about balancing her career with raising her three children – Hazel, Phinnaeus and her youngest, Henry Daniel, whom she welcomed in 2007 with her husband, cameraman Daniel Moder.

Acting, she said, was her “dream come true,” but it wasn’t her only one.

“The life that I've built with my husband,” she shared. “The life that we’ve built with our children. And that’s the best stuff, to come home at the end of the day triumphantly to them.”

As Roberts continues to celebrate her children’s milestones and embrace new seasons in her own life, she carries the same sincerity she brings to every role – and now, to every moment of motherhood.
