Joseph Cantu, Homeless Dad Of Five, Has Difficulties Locating A Shelter That Takes Men With Kids

When the subject of single parents comes up, most people immediately think about single mothers. After all, more mothers than fathers end up taking care of the children when life falls apart. However, there are also single fathers out there who are willing to take care of their kids no matter what. This is a story about one man who is struggling with not just one kid, but five.

Joseph Cantu lives in Pontiac, Michigan. Previously, he lived with his wife and five young children. But when his wife left him alone to take care of the kids, life turned upside-down for this dedicated father. He had no choice but to do everything he could to take care of his children no matter what the circumstances.

Unfortunately, having five young kids means needing childcare while you are at work. Since Joseph had no one to take care of his children while he worked as a car polisher, he was ultimately let go from his job. From then on it was downhill for the struggling father of five. Where would he go?

While many homeless shelters take in families, Joseph has stated that his situation has been very different. He said that he is finding it basically impossible to find a homeless shelter in southeast Michigan that is willing to take in a man with five kids. That means having to sleep in their van or look for other sleeping arrangements every single night.

While Joseph is on a waiting list for a shelter that has promised to take them in, not knowing where he and his five children will sleep every night is super stressful. While they are lucky to at least have a van to spend the night in, Joseph is eager to find something a little more stable until he can find an apartment or home.

Joseph talked to Fox 2 News about how he never thought he would end up homeless, as seen in the video above. He is hoping that his kids will not remember this stressful time since they are young. Luckily, calls and messages began to pour in after Fox 2 News shared the heartbreaking story. This segment may have changed a lot in the life of this brave father! He even thanked everybody who helped in another interview with Fox 2 News:
