Many celebrities avoid exposure in public and prefer to stay out of sight whenever possible. They are seen on screen or in performance venues regularly, but we rarely get a glimpse into their personal lives. Sometimes, however, celebrities do things outside their public entertainment career that show us how great they are as people.

Johnny Depp is a prime example of an A-list celebrity who prefers to stay out of the spotlight in his day-to-day life. He has appeared in several of Tim Burton's films throughout his illustrious career, including "Edward Scissorhands," "Sleepy Hollow," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland." Depp is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous movie stars and was listed as the highest-paid actor by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012.

Depp dropped out of high school and began his career as a musician before moving into acting. He made his movie debut in 1984 with the horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street." The actor then became a household name with his success on the television series "21 Jump Street." Some of the star's other notable films include "What’s Eating Gilbert Grape," "Finding Neverland" and "Donnie Brasco."

After a tumultuous last two years, Depp has now reached a new point in his life. He is on the road, touring alongside close friend and frequent collaborator Jeff Beck with a string of concerts.

In their jampacked 23-date tour in North America, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor took a detour to his hometown in Owensboro, Kentucky, and surprised his fans in the area for a quick and supposedly secret trip back home. Read on to see the candid photos of Depp with his fans.

Even given his level of popularity, Depp still prefers to keep to himself in general. Although he may have a reputation for being aloof, we should not assume that he lacks a caring and kind nature toward people or that he doesn't have concerns for those in need.

In the past, Depp has been eager to help others via charity work. From visiting his younger fans who are sick in the hospital to donating money to various causes, Depp has shown he isn't afraid of connecting and being close to his fans.

In fact, in 2017, Depp — dressed in his complete pirate costume from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise — sailed to Vancouver’s BC Children's Hospital Foundation to see his little fans smile despite their challenging conditions as they were confined to hospital beds.

The foundation posted a video of Depp interacting with the children and bringing smiles to their faces. The actor visited the facility, meeting with individual patients and families. His visit lasted over five hours, and it went a long way toward improving the mood of the patients.

A spokesman for the hospital said patients were surprised and shocked to see Jack Sparrow, Depp’s character, walk in.

"The charismatic character charmed patients and their families alike, leaving smiles and laughter in his wake," she said.

The sweet gesture was widely appreciated by the kids confined in the Vancouver hospital. Patients shared that they weren't expecting to wake up to such a special surprise.

"I didn't wake up in the morning knowing I was going to see Johnny Depp today," one kid said.

While his quick detour from home in Owensboro, Kentucky, might not have lasted very long compared to the hospital visits, Depp, indeed made his old and new neighbors happy with a once-in-a-blue-moon visit.

After winning his controversial defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp has moved on to greener pastures and has rekindled his passion for music with Beck. The two even had their collaborative album, “18,” released last July 2022.

On top of his bustling music career, reports of Depp being offered the iconic role of Jack Sparrow once again have emerged on social media. People reported via a source from Disney that the entertainment giant has been wooing the actor to return to his iconic role for more than 300 million dollars after bowing out on 2017’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

Amid the claims of his film comeback, Depp was spotted in his childhood hometown in Owensboro, Kentucky, during a quick detour back home en route to his Louisville concert with Beck.

In a post that Abby Keelin shared on Facebook on Oct. 23, 2022, Depp was smiling beside his neighbors and their children in a photo opportunity.

“We have lived on our street for over 4 years and have always heard about Johnny Depp growing up here. However, we have never seen him so I have always wondered if it was even true," the post began. It continued:

"Last night my kids were hanging out down the street at a friends house and Johnny Depp showed up!! He was kind enough to walk across the street and get a picture made with all the kids and neighbors. His dad and his aunt and uncle all have a house on our street and he was here visiting. He was very kind but Job pointed out to me that he doesn’t look like the guy off Edward Scissorhands that we watched last week!”
