One of Hollywood's most iconic actors is "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp. He has appeared in several of director Tim Burton's films throughout his illustrious career, including "Edward Scissorhands," "Sleepy Hollow," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "Alice in Wonderland." Depp is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous movie stars and was listed as the highest-paid actor by Guinness World Records in 2012.

Depp dropped out of high school and began his career as a musician before moving into acting. He made his movie debut in 1984 with the horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street." The actor then went on to become a household name with his success on the television series "21 Jump Street." Some of the star's other notable films include "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Finding Neverland" and "Donnie Brasco."

In his personal life, Depp has been married and divorced twice. He has also had long-term relationships with other women, including Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, who is the mother of his two children. Paradis and Depp were together from 1998 to 2012.

Depp has been on the receiving end of negative publicity, especially after his private life started unfolding in public. In 2015, he married Amber Heard, but she filed for a divorce in 2016, and more information regarding their relationship has since become known.

While Depp’s career has had highs and lows, acting in both major blockbuster hits and independent films, the actor seems to be on his way to making a comeback. Read on to find out more about Depp’s career and what his upcoming work looks like.

Back when he was just a teenager, Depp had dreams of becoming a rockstar. He initially dropped out of high school to pursue a career in the music industry, but his band ended up breaking up. However, Depp is now in a band called the Hollywood Vampires alongside Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

Before he became the legend he is today, though, Depp had to start out somewhere, and he actually changed directions from music to acting. His then-wife Lori Alliston introduced him to fellow actor Nicolas Cage, and the rest is history. The two men quickly established a great friendship and Cage encouraged Depp to really consider pursuing a career in acting.

Soon enough, Depp was going out for auditions and successfully landed the part of the main character’s boyfriend in the Wes Craven 1984 classic horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Even though Depp hadn’t had acting experience, he continued to impress casting agents and directors and landed more and more roles. By the end of the 1980s, Depp was a certified teen idol, thanks in part to his role in the TV series “21 Jump Street.”

However, being a teen sensation wasn’t exactly the lifestyle Depp expected to live, so he began pursuing roles that he found more interesting. His resume quickly became more eclectic with each passing film as the established star began working with Tim Burton. Many of their films together went on to find great success and are still considered cult classics to this day.

In 1990, Depp played the title character in the Burton romantic fantasy film “Edward Scissorhands.”

In 2003, the actor starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in the adventure film “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The film was an instant hit with fans and critics alike, doing extremely well at the box office and at award shows. It’s not surprising that the movie spawned a successful film franchise.

However, Depp faced some career setbacks in the late 2010s and early 2020s. He appeared in both “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Murder on the Orient Express” in 2017. The following year, he portrayed the role of Grindelwald in “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” which was the sequel to the 2016 film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Afterward, though, Depp didn’t act in many major films, and it was unclear which direction his career was headed in. However, back in January 2022, Variety reported that Depp was scheduled to star as French King Louis XV, “Louis the Beloved,” in an upcoming film titled “Jeanne du Barry.” The movie began filming in the summer of 2022 across different landmarks in France, including the Versailles Palace.

The movie industry has been bustling in Cannes, France, recently. According to Screen Daily, many executives made their way to Cannes recently to promote new titles. Todd Olsson, president of international at the Highland Film Group, said, “It was fantastic to all be back together… It made a difference to how the deals were done.”

According to Variety, Depp’s upcoming film is being directed by Maiwenn, who is known for other works such as “Polisse” and “Mon Roi.”

More information about Depp’s upcoming film has been released, showcasing just how hard Depp and the production team have been at work. Filming for the Maiwenn-directed piece began in late July 2022. According to Deadline, the Why Not Productions company unveiled the first teaser image of Depp as King Louis XV in “Jeanne du Barry.”

The movie is reported to be inspired by the life of Jeanne du Barry, the last royal mistress of Louis XV. She was a young working-class woman who had a strong passion for learning about culture, and her high intelligence helped her move up in society.

As the real-life figures fell in love during their lives together, it’s evident that “Jeanne du Barry” will feature a romance between Depp and the woman taking on the titular role, which, according to IMDB, is director Maiwenn. Other notable stars in the film include Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, India Hair and more.

The summer of 2022 was busy for Depp. Aside from starting his work in the French period film, he also reunited with his band, the Hollywood Vampires. On June 22, 2022, the Hollywood Vampires announced their embarkment on tour across Germany and Luxembourg. They toured later that month.

Also, in June 2022, Billboard reported that Depp and Jeff Beck released a cover of the Beach Boys’ song “Caroline, No.” It was featured on their recent cover album, “18,” which was released in mid-July.

While there’s no telling what else is in Depp’s future, one thing is for sure – he is on his way to making a grand comeback.
