Johnny Depp Dresses As Jack Sparrow & Spreads Joy At Children’s Hospital

Johnny Depp has had an impressive career spanning decades, embodying iconic roles such as Willy Wonka and the Mad Hatter. However, one of his most unforgettable roles is that of Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. To this day, this remains one of the roles for which people know him most. Depp, 62, is currently in Spain filming his upcoming movie, “Day Drinker,” alongside Penélope Cruz. 

In an unexpected and heartwarming break from filming, Johnny Depp once again donned the iconic pirate attire of Captain Jack Sparrow to bring joy to children battling serious illnesses at Madrid’s Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital. The actor surprised and delighted the young patients with his visit, warming the hearts of many social media users. The visit, which took place on June 16, 2025, blended fantasy and heartfelt care, offering a welcome reprieve for young oncology patients.

Videos and photos show the actor navigating the hospital corridors in Sparrow’s signature outfit, complete with a red bandana, dreadlocks, eyeliner, and boots, eliciting gasps and smiles from children and staff alike. He made time to chat with the children, hold them and take pictures. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor’s charitable nature has been commended by many who watched images and videos from his hospital visit, with one user writing:

“Keep in mind that this man no longer works for Disney, and no longer gets any royalties from using and wearing the Jack Sparrow character uniform. All this was done for free, he never got a penny out of it. That's real charity. It's about donating your TIME and not just your money.”

Since Jack Sparrow is one of the most beloved characters in fiction and film, he has been a favorite among fans of all ages. So, this wasn’t Depp’s first compassionate cameo. In September 2024, he appeared at Donostia University Hospital during the San Sebastián Film Festival, delighting children in the pediatrics and oncology wards. 

Over the years, Jack Sparrow has also visited hospitals in Vancouver, Paris, London, Brisbane, and cities across the U.S. His visit to Donostia University Hospital, along with accompanying pictures of him posing with his young fans, touched many netizens. After his visit, the hospital took to social media to share the images and thank the actor in a translated post which read:

“From Osakidetza, and especially from all the staff at the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to express our infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, support and energy, as well as to @sansebastianfes for facilitating this visit.”

Although Depp, 62, is a celebrated actor and very talented musician, his empathy for others and support for those in difficult situations makes him an admirable human being to his fans. As he sails between roles and real life, Depp reminds us that humanity sometimes appears not in grand gestures but in small acts: a fist bump, a shared joke, a moment of wonder.
