Today's Johnny Depp's 57th birthday, and to celebrate him, let's take a look back at his life and most popular roles from his decades-long acting career.

Born in 1963 in Kentucky, Johnny Depp's parents are Betty Sue Palmer and Christopher Depp. His mother was a waitress and his father was a civil engineer, so neither of his parents were actors. After moving a lot, the family eventually settled-down in Miramar, Florida. 

At the age of 12, Johnny Depp began playing guitar. After his parent's divorce in 1978, he dropped out of school with the idea that he was going to pursue becoming a rockstar. It was after the divorce that he started playing in various garage bands. One band even became successful enough that Johnny and the group were opening for bands like the Talking Heads and the B-52s.

At the age of 20, Depp married 25-year-old make-up artist Lori Allison. After moving to L.A., Allison introduced Depp to her ex-boyfriend Nicholas Cage, and then Depp's interest in acting really kicked off. After smaller roles and gigs as an extra, Depp landed his first big movie role in the 1984 production of Nightmare on Elm Street. 

Since then, Johnny Depp has become a household name for his acting. With famous roles such as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Edward Scissorhands in the titular film of the same name, and Willy Wonka in the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film, Johnny Depp has wowed audiences on-screen with his incredible ability to transform into different roles.
