One man was offered the chance to showcase his talents at this popular musical venue. Thomas Gabriel didn't hesitate to step on stage and stand under this spotlight. He was a songwriter who wanted the chance of showing off some of his original music while covering a few classic tunes.

One of the songs he chose to cover was a classic by Johnny Cash, "God's Gonna Cut You Down". When he started singing, a few in the audience thought Johnny Cash had risen from the grave.

A signature part of Johnny Cash's rendition of this song is the deep sadness that resonates throughout the song. Cash's low husky voice is instantly recognizable to his many fans, even though he has been gone for so long. When Thomas Gabriel started singing the song, the crowd didn't know what to think. He eerily sounded like the Man in Black himself.

There's a couple of reasons why. Thomas Gabriel is the grandson of Johnny Cash, so he got his talent naturally. He went on the road with his grandfather quite often, which exposed him to music from the start. It seemed a natural progression for him to work as a career musician.

As Cash's oldest grandson, Thomas would often get up on stage with his grandfather, especially to sing "When the Saints Go Marching In". When Thomas turned 21, Cash gave him a sincere compliment that keeps him going to this day. Johnny told Thomas that the 21-year-old sounded a lot like him when he was younger. He encouraged him to keep on working.

Now, looking at Thomas, you might not see any resemblance with Johnny. Thomas prefers a close-shaved head instead of his grandfather's thick locks. However, inside, the similarities are obvious.

Thomas shares Johnny's singing genes and has a voice that music fans love to hear. Thomas' voice is his own as well as his talent. He doesn't need the name of his grandfather to show why he has the talent to become a star in his own right. Listen to Thomas Gabriel's version of "God's Gonna Cut You Down".
