The song begins with John Wayne’s introduction that is highly impactful amongst every American. He talks about opportunities and important time periods and events that have happened in the past and relating them to the audience of all ages.

Wayne related the opportunities of children who grew up to do great things like Neil Armstrong’s first steps in the moon landing to “very young people who see a tough life ahead.” He also asked complaining 50-year-olds and related this with the accomplishments of Crispus Attucks who died fighting for freedom and John F. Kennedy’s promise of serving his country. He related Eisenhower’s re-election at 67 years old to the people over 65 years old who are retired.

Then, with hair raising words, John Wayne says, “God bless America.” This was an unforgettable and memorable moment when it first aired on TV.

There were more than 31 stars singing this song. It included Lucille Ball, Roscoe Lee Brown, Dan Blocker, Jack Benny, Michael Landon, Roy Clark, Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby, Phyllis Diller, Rick Nelson, Lorne Greene, Celeste Holm, Bob Hope, Glen Campbell, Ann-Margret, Dean Martin, Ross Martin, Ed McMahon, Greg Morris, David Nelson, Dan Rowan, Hugh O’Brien, Doodletown Pipers, Dennis Weaver, Rowan & Martin, Tom Smothers, Red Skelton, William Shatner, Leslie Uggams, and Dick Martin.

Each of the stars had costumes that were historically accurate to previous events that happened in the past.

It ended with all of the stars standing on a huge stage in the shape of the United States. It is apparent that the coordination of this video was extraordinary along with the effortless singing of the stars.
