John Travolta Mourns Wife Kelly Preston’s Death: Her 'Love and Life Will Always Be Remembered'

John Travolta is mourning the death of his wife of 28 years, Kelly Preston, who died Sunday morning aged 57.

Preston passed away following a two year “courageous fight” against breast cancer, which she kept away from the public.

Preston’s tragic death was announced by her husband via Instagram late Sunday evening.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” Travolta wrote on Instagram. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”

"My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly's love and life will always be remembered," he added.

A representative for the family spoke to People magazine, revealing that the late actress chose to keep her battle with cancer away from the public. 

"Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends," the representative told People. 

"She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time."

Preston is survived by her 66-year-old husband John Travolta, and their children Ella, 20, and Benjamin, 9. Their son Jett passed away in 2009 after suffering a seizure, according to ET. He was 16. 

The actors celebrated their 28th anniversary in September 2019. Taking to Instagram, Preston shared a photo of herself with her husband accompanied by a heartfelt caption.

“To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know,” her caption reads. “You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally… made me laugh harder than any other human being possible... shared the most beautiful highs and at times lows.

“You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun!! I trust my love with you implicitly... with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens... I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary.”

Her latest post was a sweet family photo featuring Travolta, herself, and their two surviving children, shared in honor of fathers day. “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you,” Preston captioned her post, which also featured a black and white photo of Travolta and their late son, Jett.

Her latest role was that of Victoria Gotti in the 2018 film, Gotti. She starred alongside Travolta, who portrayed her on-screen husband and the main character of the film.
