John Travolta has been a celebrity for decades, as he rose to fame in the 1970s. Most people know him for his roles in many successful films, such as "Grease," "Saturday Night Fever" and "Pulp Fiction." And after enjoying massive success as an actor, producer, singer and dancer, it's safe to say that Travolta has amassed quite the fortune. But how much is the 67-year-old actor really worth? And how did it manage to accumulate so much wealth?

Travolta certainly didn't start out with his multimillion-dollar fortune, as his family wasn't wealthy. Born John Joseph Travolta in 1954, he was the youngest of six children who grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, with parents who were in the entertainment business, according to Biography.com.
The would-be actor decided early on that he, too, would become an entertainer, dropping out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue acting. Soon enough, he had landed his first role in an off-broadway production in 1972, only to join as a replacement for a cast member on a
Broadway production of "Grease."

But it wasn't until 1975 that Travolta really supercharged his career after landing his role as Vinnie Barbarino in "Welcome Back, Kotter." The television show solidified the young actor's place as a teenage heartthrob, and soon enough, the actor had no problem landing big parts in feature-length films, with appearances in horror films like "The Devil's Rain" and "Carrie."
But if there's one film that made the difference — that really set Travolta on the path to being a wealthy star — it's his performance in Saturday Night Fever in 1977, which was a major success at the box office.

Since then, Travolta has taken high-paying role after high-paying role, which has no doubt allowed him to accumulate quite a bit of wealth. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Travolta regularly earns upwards of $10 million for his performances. Beyond his career earnings, Travolta also has assets in real estate. With homes in different locations in the country as well as a long-standing career– some would say Travolta is quite the successful man.

This lifestyle, however, did not unfold overnight. Travolta credits his success to his ability to be people other than himself. In 2013 he told Variety

"It's about finding a comfort zone. I guess I'm just more comfortable being other people than I am being myself," the actor said. "I've been getting career awards since the mid-'90s. Your average career runs about 30 years, so I'm about five years past that," Travolta added. The star, who has been working full-time in the industry for decades now, believes he had longevity because he had his eye on the prize with dedication.

"You can't allow your dreams or postulates to be interfered with. You have to make sure that the right dream and the right postulate and achievable, you know a known goal that you can get to; but I'll say something that I think is the most powerful, don't do it for the wrong reasons. If you have ulterior motives in what you're doing it'll never work," he said

In a sit-down interview with Tommy Bilyeu in 2019, Travolta said you also have to be passionate about your work no matter what.

"If you always do good work from your standards whether you are in a project that fails or succeeds you can live with that. But if you are doing things on other people's criteria or standards and you fail you feel terrible. There is nothing worse than failing else on someone else's idea. Fail on your idea," he said. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Travolta has opened up to the world and said he always puts all of himself into every project.

"You do it because it's a good piece of work, you love it. You are going to do the best job you can, you're going to invest in research, you're going to drill and practice and get it right," he admitted. With his 40+ feature films, the star's work ethic obviously got him to the top of his career. He has many accolades to prove it as well as his Golden Globe and many other awards.

Despite Travolta's praise-worthy career, the star has experienced major heartbreak during his career. In 2019 the star's actress wife, Kelly Preston, passed away from breast cancer. However, this heartbreak brought the actor and his two children closer than ever. Fans can keep up with the actor on his Instagram, where he often posts videos of his family and their lifestyle.

In 2016, Travolta joined the cast of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and received an Emmy award for his supporting role by portraying Robert Shapiro.

Recently the actor starred in the American thriller The Poison Rose (2019), which also featured his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta. His newest movie, The fanatic (2019), is a psychological thriller and shows Travolta as an obsessed fan.
