John Stamos’s Shocking Answer When Quizzed Over Whether He’d Leave His Wife For Lori Loughlin

Oct 27, 2025 by apost team

John Stamos has always been known for his loyalty, both on and off screen. That was evident when he opened up about his enduring friendship with his “Full House” co-star, Lori Loughlin. During an appearance on the “Good Guys” podcast in October 2025, the actor reflected on their bond, which began decades ago when they played beloved couple Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky on the hit sitcom that ran through the late 1980s and 1990s.

Although fans often imagined the two had a real-life romance, Stamos made it clear their relationship was never romantic. “A lot of people think, ‘Oh, you guys were romantic,’ or whatever,” Stamos said on the podcast. “You know, I happened to say she was the one that got away in something – I think it was before I met (wife) Caitlin (McHugh) – and, you know, it was an interesting thing.”

The actor noted that he and Loughlin had only a brief opportunity to explore something more.

“I wrote about in the book, there was a very small window of the two of us being single at the same time,” he continued. That timing, however, never worked out in their favor.

Stamos compared a young Loughlin to Sandy from “Grease” before her transformation: “Lori was so sweet, and I loved working with her, but she was too nice for me.”

He admitted that he gravitated more toward the rebellious type at the time, which influenced his choices in love.

On Oct. 3, 2025, news surfaced that Loughlin had separated from her husband of nearly 28 years, Mossimo Giannulli. Following the announcement, Stamos revealed that he and McHugh had been supporting her through the difficult period.

“It’s not a clear thing all the time with something like this,” Stamos said. “She lives in my neighborhood, Lori, and so, you know, I was over there a lot and she came to our house a couple times and Caitlin’s been good about it.”

During the same conversation, podcast hosts Ben Soffer and Josh Peck joked that fans were dying to know whether Stamos would ever consider leaving his wife for Loughlin. His answer was swift and firm. Stamos exclaimed:

“No f------- way!”

He continued:

“I’m not Mormon. Do you do that with your wife? Are you a swinger?”

Both actors moved on to other relationships after their “Full House” days. Stamos married model Rebecca Romijn in 1998 before the pair divorced in 2005. He later found lasting love with Caitlin McHugh, whom he wed in 2018. Loughlin, for her part, was married to Michael R. Burns from 1980 to 1996 and then to Giannulli from 1997 until their split in October 2025.

Stamos expressed deep compassion for his longtime friend as she copes with her separation.

“I’m just heartbroken for her right now,” he said, adding, “She’s just devastated. For a girl who has lived her life really well, a good person, a good mother, a good wife – I know all this for a fact – to be thrown into now this separation and, you know, exploding, blowing up her family this way. I just hate to see her go through this. I really do.”

The actor also didn’t hold back his thoughts about Giannulli, who, along with Loughlin, previously served time after pleading guilty to wire and mail fraud in the college admissions scandal in 2020.

“I will never talk to him again,” Stamos declared. “He’s a terrible narcissist, and I don’t think you ever get out of that unless you’re able to.”

Still, he ended his comments with a touch of empathy.

“I pray for this guy,” he concluded, adding, “I pray that he gets a hold of whatever hole that he’s trying to fill, however he’s trying to fill it. I pray that he realizes that what he had was everything that anyone could ever hope for and that he gets some help. I think this guy needs help.”
