John Candy, the iconic comedian best known for the movie "Uncle Buck," has been remembered by his children on the 29th anniversary of his death.

On March 4, 2023, the actor’s two adult kids, Jennifer Candy-Sulivan and Chris Candy, simultaneously posted a tribute with messages and photos of their beloved father on social media. Their mom and John's widow, Rosemary Margaret Hobor, also remembered her husband, who died at 43 years old following a heart attack in his sleep in 1994.

John was filming the Wild West comedy flick "Wagons East" with Richard Lewis in Mexico at that time. Special effects using his old clips and a stand-in were used to finish the movie.

Born in Canada, John became a prominent TV personality in the 1970s because of his Toronto-based sketch show, "Second City Television." The series was picked up by NBC for the U.S. audience and won a couple of Emmy Awards.

In 1981, John had his shot in Hollywood in the war comedy movie "Stripes" with Bill Murray. A few years later, he sealed his fame in America and got his break-out role when he joined "Splash" with then-rising actors Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah. In 1985, he led the movie "Summer Rental," which ranked second at the box office behind "Back to the Future."

John was highly acclaimed for many of his works with esteemed director John Hughes. He starred with Steve Martin in the 1987 comedy movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." John subsequently did two other iconic Hughes movies, "Uncle Buck” and “She’s Having a Baby.”

John worried about his weight prior to his death, contrary to critics who thought he did not care about his obesity. The actor was at least 300 pounds overweight and "did his best" to improve his health with trainers who also guided his diet, according to his children in a 2016 interview with The Hollywood Reporter

His children, who followed in their dad’s footsteps to become actors, also said that John’s brother and father died because of a heart attack. However, the comedian was not aware, at that time, that this can be a genetic disease.

On her Instagram, Jennifer shared a photo of her dad with her as a young child.

"You will always be around ❤️ You will always be missed ❤️ You will always be loved ❤️," Jennifer wrote in the caption.

Chris also shared an old photo of his dad and said he still thinks of his father every day.

"Loss is never easy but I can optimistically say it is one of the great teachers in life," Chris said

Hobor also posted a photo of her late husband and said that she misses him.

Meanwhile, reports cited in 2022 that fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks are producing a documentary about the actor with the help of the Candy family. The production was given full access to private home video clips.

Aside from delving into the comedian's legacy in films and TV, the documentary will also feature the life of John behind the screen. Amazon Prime Video is negotiating to acquire the rights to distribute the still-untitled documentary.
