Jogger Chokes Mountain Lion To Death When It Attacks Him

Feb 21, 2019 by apost team

It's a scenario that would leave most people speechless and beyond fearful. While going for a run on the West Ridge Trail in Fort Collins, CO, a man came face-to-face with a mountain lion.

The animal attacked him, clamping its teeth onto his face as well as his wrist. Knowing that he was in a life-or-death scenario, the man chose to fight back.

Using his bare hands, the man managed to put the mountain lion in a chokehold that led to its death via suffocation. Safe but undoubtedly shocked by the encounter, the man went to a local hospital to receive treatment.

Had he not acted so decisively, his injuries might have been much more severe or he could've been killed.

According to Reuters, Mark Leslie, the manager for the CPW Northeast Region said:

"The runner did everything he could to save his life. In the event of a lion attack, you need to do anything in your power to fight back just as this gentleman did."

According to mountainlion.org, the chances of a human encountering a mountain lion is quite rare and the chances of an attack are even slimmer since mountain lions tend to avoid humans.

What's even rarer is someone acting as this man did, fighting back against a ferocious beast. Though his identity has yet to be revealed, we can tell he's someone who knows what it means to be courageous.

Nature can provide us with all kinds of wonders. However, appreciating those wonders, including animals, comes with the caveat of remembering to keep ourselves safe.

It is a shame that this mountain lion had to lose their life, but the man did so not out of cruelty but a need to protect himself.

This is a truly incredible story of bravery. What do you think of this encounter? Would have done the same? Let us know in the comments.
