Montana, and his wife, Jennifer, 62, were both at home when the incident happened. TMZ Sports reports that the woman walked into Montana's house via an unlocked door.

She saw the infant asleep inside a playpen, picked them up, and held them in her arms. It was then that she came face to face with Joe and Jennifer and the altercation took place. The pair asked her to hand the baby back, but when she did not they tussled with the woman and managed to prise the baby away from her. The intruder then ran out of the house.

Fortunately, Deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department were already in the area dealing with an unrelated matter, and someone inside the Montana household notified them about what had happened, reports the Daily Mail.

Although the kidnapper tried to flee, it wasn't long before she was detained a few blocks away. LASD says all parties were unharmed in the incident, including the 9-month-old child. According to TMZ Sports, the suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Sodsai Dalzell, and she has now been charged for kidnapping and burglary.

Joe Montana commented on Twitter for the first about the incident. He thanked everyone for their well-wishes and concern, saying:

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Scary situation, but thankful that everyone is doing well. We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time."

Montana has had a successful football career. He joined the San Francisco 49ers in 1979 and amassed a total of four Super Bowl championships from 1981 to 1989. We can definitely see his sporting commitment extends to his family's safety–he and his wife will now be in the grandparent's Hall of Fame!
