Jodie Sweetin Admitted She & Former ‘Full House’ Sister Candace Cameron Bure Stand On ‘Opposite Sides Of Things’

For many fans who grew up watching “Full House,” the cast felt like a real family. Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner on the beloved sitcom, recently reflected on what those early years were like and the relationships she built while growing up on the show.

Sweetin shared her memories during a recent appearance on the podcast “Only Child with Bob the Drag Queen,” where she spoke about life after the series and how those childhood experiences shaped her.

The actress began playing Stephanie at just 5 years old and remained in the role until the show ended in 1995. By the time the series wrapped, she was only 13.

“I was really lost, I think, in like my teens, early 20s, about what I was supposed to do next,” Sweetin admitted.

Much of her childhood unfolded on the show’s set, so many of her earliest memories are tied to the people she worked with. Among those she grew closest to were Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who both played Michelle Tanner.

Sweetin also recounted spending time with the twins away from the cameras.

“They would come to my house for the weekends,” she recalled. “I took Mary-Kate and Ashley horseback riding for the first time, and now Mary Kate owns horses and stuff.”

However, as adults, their lives have taken very different paths. The Olsen twins stepped away from acting and chose not to return for the Netflix reboot “Fuller House,” which aired from 2016 to 2020.

Sweetin said she understood why they preferred to stay out of the spotlight.

“I wish nothing but the best for them, but I can’t imagine like all the bulls–t that they’ve had to deal with over the years,” she said.

Sweetin also reflected on how growing up in the spotlight shaped the Olsen twins' experiences in ways that were very different from her own.

When asked whether she ever felt jealous of the fame Mary-Kate and Ashley achieved, Sweetin quickly dismissed the idea.

“No, because I saw how hard they were worked in order to pull all that off and I didn’t envy it at all,” she explained to the podcast.

While Sweetin looks back fondly on many of the friendships she formed during her “Full House” years, she acknowledged that not every relationship has remained the same over time.

The actress spoke candidly about her dynamic with Candace Cameron Bure, who played her older sister, DJ Tanner, on the show.

The two share a long history together, but Sweetin said their perspectives on certain issues can be very different.

“You know, we sit on very opposite sides of things,” she said.

Even with those differences, Sweetin made it clear she is comfortable being open about who she is and what she believes.

“I’m just kind of a loud, outspoken bitch about a lot of things, and that’s not going to stop me,” she said. “And if that ain’t you, that ain’t you.”

For Sweetin, the years spent growing up on “Full House” still hold a special place in her life. The experience gave her lifelong memories and friendships, even as those relationships have naturally evolved with time.
