Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek Begins Chemotherapy Again Amid Cancer Battle

Beloved “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer three months ago and has been undergoing treatment for the last few months to help fight the illness. Just last month Trebek had released an update saying he was “near remission,” however the host just revealed a startling update last night saying his numbers have gone south unexpectedly.

Trebek released a video update discussing his most recent news with the disease. “One of the things I have learned in the past six months is that the course of pancreatic cancer treatment is not a straightforward affair,” the host said, “There are always curves and unexpected events.”

Over the summer, Trebek said his treatment was going well. He had told People, “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.” It was fantastic news for a diagnosis of a cancer that has a 9% survival rate.

However now the host says that he had prematurely thought he was finished with chemo. He was beginning immunotherapy when he says, “my numbers went south dramatically and quickly.” He went on to say that “the doctors are now reexamining my situation and I will have more chemo treatments ahead of me.”  

Trebek sat down with Good Morning America to talk about his new update. “I was doing so well my numbers went down to the equivalent of a normal human being who doesn’t have pancreatic cancer.” However, after stopping chemo and beginning immunotherapy the host's numbers skyrocketed.

Trebek says he will continue chemotherapy and also refuses to quit his job. “As long as I can walk out and greet the audience and the contestants and run the game, I’m happy,” he says.
