Jennifer Lopez Wore That Infamous Grammys Dress 20 Years Later At The Versace Runway Show

Before celebrities like the Kardashians broke the internet, there was Jennifer Lopez. Her green Versace jungle dress that she wore to the 2000 Grammys generated so much buzz in the early days of the internet, that it sparked the invention of Google Images. She wore it once again for the 2020 Versace Spring catwalk show.

It is hard to believe that was all the company used to do but in its early days, Google was just a simple tool to find information on the internet. Back in 2000, there was not even a Google Images feature. When Jennifer Lopez wore the show-stopping green jungle dress designed by Donatella Versace to the Grammy Awards, everything changed.

According to a Google press release, the frequent searches of "J. Lo" and "Versace" broke the internet.

"...search results were still just a list of blue links. When the Search team realized they weren’t able to directly surface the results that people wanted—a picture of Jennifer in the dress—they were inspired to create Google Images."

Google and Versace wanted to celebrate the fashion milestone and recalled the dress—and the woman who made it famous—back for a fashion show. Jennifer Lopez strutted on the catwalk in the dress, which now has more embellishments for the Versace spring 2020 fashion show at Milan Fashion Week.

J. Lo had no idea the dress would be such a fashion moment for her. She explained the story behind the choice with her stylist in a recent video on her Youtube Channel. The choice boiled down to two dresses on the morning of the Grammy's, and her stylist swayed her to the other dress because other celebs had worn it before. She ended up choosing the green dress, and it turned into a big sensation that we are still talking about all of these years later.
