Jennifer Lopez Still Feels Alone In Hollywood After 3 Decades, But She’s OK With It

Jennifer Lopez has one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment right now. And what a face it is. The actress, singer, and dancer has often been praised for how good she looks “for her age,” but don’t try that backhanded compliment with her. She’s not likely to take it sitting down.

Born in 1969 in the Bronx borough of New York City, Lopez stole the nation's hearts with her performance in the 1997 hit biopic "Selena" and hasn't stopped since. Now in her 50s, Lopez is arguably one of the most influential Latin performers in the world. Her movies have grossed over $3 billion, and she has sold around 80 million copies of her musical recordings worldwide.

In addition to performing, she has clothing lines, perfumes, and a charity that provides medical care to disadvantaged children. The star has incredible skills: singing, dancing, acting and producing. What you may not know is that she has 14-year-old twins. She married Marc Anthony in 2004 and had a set of fraternal twins, Emme and Maximilian.

Lopez and Anthony split up in 2011. The divorce was finalized in 2014, and Lopez got primary custody of the twins. Lopez made headlines when it was reported she had found love once again with someone from her past – Ben Affleck. The pair famously dated during the early 2000s but parted ways before finding their way back to each other two decades later. They married in July 2022.

Although many would come to think that Lopez finally has everything she wanted in her life, the Latina superstar opened up to Vogue Magazine about the things that she is still trying to piece together about herself and how she still feels alone in the industry.

Lopez has always been in front of the spotlight since the early 2000s. Her very distinct Latina beauty puts her in the front among many others, not to mention her killer moves on the dance floor and dynamic personality – she has captured the hearts of many over the past few years.

In fact, Lopez’s friends are some of the biggest stars in the industry: these include Lady Gaga, Kate Hudson, Drake, Demi Lovato, Sarah Paulson, Kerry Washington, and even Meryl Streep herself.

The closest and dearest friend Lopez have is Emmy Award-winning actress Leah Remini. The two had been inseparable since they met at the movie premiere of “Man of Fire,” which Anthony, Lopez’s ex-husband, notably starred in.

She told Entertainment Tonight at the time, unknowing that they would go on to be the best of friends:

"We went to the premiere hoping she was gonna be ugly in real life. And then, when I was approaching her, I was like, ‘I hope it’s the lighting. Maybe she just looks good in here.'"

Remini continued, "here's a lot of light right here, and she looks really pretty."

The two also starred in a film together in the romcom, “Second Act,” along with Vanessa Hudges and Milo Ventimiglia. Rumors of them falling out have surfaced on the internet after Remini skipped the famous Bennifer wedding. However, it was revealed later that Remini had to be with her college-bound kid at the time of their wedding. Since then, the two have remained solid friends.

Despite her strong relationship with Remini and other friendships in Hollywood, Lopez seemed to feel the other way around whenever she was around other people, especially in Hollywood.

Opening up herself to Vogue Magazine for its December 2022 issue, Lopez spoke candidly about herself and her thoughts.

Not only did Lopez detail how she found love across her marriages and eventually marrying Affleck, but she also managed to delve deep down into what she thought about herself and her place in the industry.

“I’ve always felt like an outsider, in the fashion world, the music world, the movie world,” she said. “I feel like everybody knows each other, and all the artists talk, and you go to the Met ball and all the girls are hanging out together, and I’m not in that group.”

Lopez thought it might be just her insecurity, but she proceeded to explain more about what she tries to do to stay on top of it: “It’s not because I’m antisocial or I don’t want to make friends. I’ve always been kind of a march-to-the-beat-of-my-own-drum, loner-type person. I’m like, I’ll just stay focused on my thing. I’ve always kind of felt like that. I still do. But I try!”

Like many other celebrities and artists in the industry, feedback and criticism are valuable things that she has always taken note of. Elsewhere in the interview, the actress expounded how her thinking has changed throughout the years.

“It used to be about the idea of validation in other people’s eyes. It really used to be. Because I wanted to be part of the club,” she revealed. “But I don’t anymore. There’s something bigger that I’m after. It’s about touching people’s lives and being touched.”

According to People Magazine, Lopez opened up about having a blended family with Affleck, with her fraternal twins Emme and Max. She is also a stepmother to Affleck’s kids with Jeninfer Garner, who co-parents their three children, Sam, Seraphina, and Violet.
