At the American Music Awards held on May 26, 2025, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Jennifer Lopez delivered a show-stopping performance that became the talk of the town. Opening the ceremony, the 55-year-old hitmaker performed a high-octane medley of 23 songs in just six minutes, showcasing her versatility and stamina. The medley began with her 2012 hit “Dance Again” and featured tracks by artists such as Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Bad Bunny. Lopez entertained the audience and viewers worldwide with her medley of the biggest songs of the year, coupling her vocals with impressive choreography that matched each song.

Dressed in a shimmering nude jumpsuit and boots, the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer added her trademark smoky eye makeup look. With the crowd cheering and enjoying the show, Lopez added an unexpected twist to her performance by sharing onstage kisses with both a male and a female dancer. This bold move drew immediate reactions from the audience and viewers alike, who were stunned by the surprise kisses. The kiss also stunned fellow celebrities, with comedian Tiffany Haddish, who later presented the Favorite R&B Song award, humorously commenting:

“Save a dancer for me, J.Lo. D---! You ain’t the only one out here single.”

Before that, Haddish had shared her awe of Lopez hosting the AMAs.

“How cool is it to have a total superstar like J.Lo hosting the AMAs?” she gushed, adding, “Our host has just danced to 23 hits in six minutes. Just from that opening number alone, Jenny from the Block has got all her steps in for the day, and she got all her kisses in.”

Judging by the energy and zeal of her performance, many would find it hard to believe that, prior to the awards ceremony, Lopez had injured her face during a rehearsal for her AMA performance. Just weeks before the awards ceremony, Lopez shared via her Instagram stories that she had gotten hurt in the face while rehearsing. In the photos, fans could see a cut on the bridge of her nose and an ice pack over the spot.

“So … this happened,” she wrote, according to Us Weekly.

The injury seemed to have been serious enough for Lopez to require stitches, an update she shared on her Instagram stories a week later as she thanked a plastic surgeon for stitching her up, writing:

“A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new.”

The response to Lopez being announced as the host of the 2025 AMAs was overwhelmingly positive. The singer can be considered a veteran of the prestigious event, having performed over 10 times now.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer Lopez back to host the American Music Awards,” Jay Penske, the CEO of Dick Clark Productions, announced in a statement at the time.

“Jennifer’s incredible talent and incomparable stage presence make her the ideal host of the show. We know she will bring her one-of-a-kind energy to the official kick-off celebration of summer,” he added.

Lopez kept the energy levels high during the night as many electrifying performances lit up the stage. After her unforgettable performance, she also paid tribute to the fans for their impact, saying:

“I had to kick things off by turning it up to the biggest songs of the year and dancing my heart out for all of you, but tonight, the spotlight belongs to you, because this is the world’s largest fan-voted award show where you decide the winners.”

Between her role as host and her performance, Lopez certainly did not disappoint viewers.
