Last week, Jennifer Lopez, 50, and Shakira, 43, sparked controversy with their Superbowl halftime show, which was deemed by some viewers as “inappropriate.”

Now, J.Lo has come forward to call the backlash “silliness” that is only coming from a “small fraction” of the viewers.

Last Sunday, Jennifer Lopez took to the Superbowl stage with Shakira to perform for the sports event’s half time.

The performance included belly dancing, 90s songs, numerous outfit changes, pole dancing, and even Lopez’s daughter Emme joining her on stage to perform.

Some viewers, however, found the show to be inappropriate, especially for young viewers.

This weekend, the 50-year-old pop star spoke to Variety magazine, saying she thought the controversy was “silliness.”

“Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do,” she said. “We (put on) a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small fraction of people who want to be negative about it, I can’t even let in.”

The Latina star said she thought the performance was a “celebration of women and Latino culture.”

“The message of standing up for yourself, being a women – that’s what I want to pass on to little girls – everything about you – be proud of it,” she said. “I’m very proud of the performance that night.”
