A-list celebrity couples are always fun to keep up with, and one of the quintessential pairs is Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who is also known by the portmanteau “Bennifer.” The term is one of the first instances of a couple’s names being used this way. Both artists are known for their illustrious careers. Affleck is an actor and filmmaker, while Lopez is a singer and actress. The couple has a colorful dating history. The two actors met in 2001 on the set of the film “Gigli.” They first began dating in 2002 and were engaged to be married in 2003. Sadly, their wedding was postponed, and then the pair decided to split up in 2004.

However, during their time together, the couple became an iconic celebrity romance. There were tons of paparazzi photos of the two of them being affectionate that frequently made headlines. This coverage continued when Affleck showed up in Lopez’s music video for her song “Jenny from the Block.”

Before dating Affleck, Lopez had been married twice before. She then got married a third time to Marc Anthony, the same year she and Affleck decided to call it quits. She was married to Anthony until 2014. As for Affleck, he married Jennifer Garner in 2005, and they were together until 2018. They share three children together.

In 2021, after they both were finally single again, Affleck and Lopez decided to get back together. In July of that year, Lopez confirmed they were dating in a social media post. And just one year later, in July 2022, Bennifer finally tied the knot and officially became husband and wife. Now, Lopez is a stepmother to Affleck’s children. Read on to find out more about Lopez’s blended family and how she’s trying to keep her kids real.

On July 16, 2022, Lopez and Affleck finally tied the knot. Daily Mail reported the couple moved into Lopez’s Los Angeles mansion she has owned for years. And now, Lopez is a proud stepparent to Affleck’s kids and vice versa. However, it seems like Lopez has already instilled the basics in her kids, such as keeping them humble. She told Vogue in its December 2022 edition: “I wanted to give them a life that I didn’t have, but they don’t get to have the experience of something that is also helpful, which is developing that survivalist mentality. I really wanted to find a better way than having to put the fear in them. It’s like, I can hold a boundary with you but also be your ally.”

However, she conceded raising children in the celebrity spotlight is challenging. “The other day, one of my kids said, ‘I want to go to the flea market,’” Lopez told the publication. “I was like, 'Oh, you want me and Ben to come?' They said, 'You know, it's such a thing when you go, Mom.' It hurt my feelings," she said, adding, however, that she sympathized with her kids as well.

"I get it. They want time with their friends when they aren't being watched and followed and photographed," she added. "It's a thing. Nobody's complaining, but it's a thing."

She said teaching them was not a one-way road and they too, have taught her a lot about life.

“(They remind) you of the things you need to know about life and how to love somebody and how to care for people that in your 20s and 30s, as you're doing your own thing, you can lose sight of.”

Lopez also revealed how impressed she was by the younger generation, whom she called passionate and vocal about political and social issues. “This generation is beautifully aware and involved and brave,” she said, “and they will call bulls**t on stuff really quick. I want my kids to stand up for themselves and the things they care about. I want all the little girls in the world to get loud. Get loud! Say it when it’s wrong. Don’t be afraid. I was afraid for a long time: afraid to not get the job, to piss people off, afraid that people wouldn’t like me. No.”

As for Affleck’s ex Garner, Lopez would only sing her praises and called her “an amazing co-parent” who, with Affleck, “work really well together” to raise their two teenage daughters and 10-year-old son. Lopez’s ex Anthony, meanwhile, lives on the East Coast, making the co-parenting process a little trickier. However, Lopez said transitioning into a blended family “is a process that needs to be handled with so much care” but, in true Lopez style, she is determined to make it work.

“(The children) have so many feelings. They’re teens. But it’s going really well so far,” Lopez said before revealing her aspirations for her beautiful blended family.

“What I hope to cultivate with our family is that his kids have a new ally in me and my kids have a new ally in him, someone who really loves and cares about them but can have a different perspective and help me see things that I can’t see with my kids because I’m so emotionally tied up,” Lopez shared.
