Jennifer Lopez Gets Emotional as Max and Emme Reach Major Milestone

For Jennifer Lopez, this season of life is bringing something every parent eventually faces, even if they happen to be a global superstar. Her twins, Max and Emme, are officially preparing for college, and the proud mom is finding herself both emotional and amazed by everything they have accomplished.

Speaking with Extra, Lopez shared that both of her children exceeded even her expectations during the college admissions process. The twins, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, applied to five colleges each and were accepted to every single one.

Even more impressively, both received scholarship offers. While many parents might focus on the academic achievement alone, Lopez made it clear that what matters most to her goes far beyond acceptance letters. She revealed that watching her children develop discipline and resilience over the years has been one of the greatest joys of her life. “I watched how hard they worked,” she said, reflecting on their academic journey.

Lopez explained that both Max and Emme have ADHD and often needed to learn differently from their peers, which sometimes created additional challenges. Still, she never saw them back away from the work required to reach their goals. Instead, she watched them continue pushing forward year after year.

According to Lopez, their success did not happen overnight. It came through persistence, support, and a willingness to keep trying even when things became difficult. For her, seeing them arrive at this moment feels especially meaningful because it validates years of effort that happened quietly behind the scenes, long before any college acceptance letters arrived.

While Lopez is thrilled about what lies ahead for Max and Emme, she is also confronting the reality that a major chapter of motherhood is coming to a close. Earlier this month during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the singer and actress admitted that the transition has already taken an emotional toll.

One of her twins recently graduated from high school, a milestone that left Lopez struggling to keep her emotions in check. “Don’t talk about it ‘cause we start crying,” she joked when the subject came up. But behind the humor was a feeling many parents know all too well. As children prepare to leave home and begin building lives of their own, pride and heartbreak often arrive together.

Lopez acknowledged that she expects the graduation ceremonies to be emotional and laughed when Kimmel asked whether she would judge parents who were not crying. “No. I think all the parents are going to be crying at some point,” she replied. Despite the emotions, Lopez remains focused on supporting her children as they make their own choices about the future.

She said she has no issue with them attending different schools if that is what makes them happy. “I want them to be happy, go where they want to go, and do what they want to do,” she explained. Yet perhaps the moment that best captured how she feels about her twins had nothing to do with scholarships or college admissions.

Looking back on the values she tried to teach them, Lopez revealed the lesson she has repeated throughout their lives. “I always say to them, ‘What do I say?’ And they say, ‘Doesn’t matter if we get good grades so long as we’re good people.’ “ Then, with obvious pride, she added the part that matters most to her today: “That’s right.”
