Jennifer Lopez Details True Reason For First Split With Ben Affleck In Unearthed Interview

Jun 09, 2021 by apost team

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were one of the hottest couples in Hollywood during the early 2000s. With stunningly good looks and rising success in the entertainment industry, the two seemed unstoppable on their own, and were even stronger and more beautiful together. They worked together on a couple of projects and their personal relationship off-screen continued to flourish. Lopez and Affleck had nothing but love and affection for each other, and even got engaged in November 2002.

The public fell just as in love with the lovebirds and even gave them the nickname Bennifer. Unfortunately, not everything is meant to last forever, and the adorable couple postponed their wedding before ultimately ending their relationship for good in 2004. The world was shocked by the ending of their whirlwind romance, and Lopez and Affleck were both forced to move on.

Love was not over for either of the stars, as they both went on to engage in other long-term relationships and were both married to other people at some point in their lives, although those marriages did not last. After plenty of years of ultimately unsuccessful romances, Lopez and Affleck shocked the world once again when they appeared to rekindle their fantasy romance.

In April 2021, Lopez and Affleck were both single and finally had the chance to reconnect with one another and potentially re-light the spark of their past romance. Although the future for Bennifer is still unclear, Lopez has given insight into what led the infamous couple to separate in the first place in an unearthed interview from 2010.

Lopez has been making waves in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s as a singer, actress and dancer. Affleck had his start in Hollywood in the 1980s as well thanks to his talents as an actor, director, producer and screenwriter. The two met on the set of the 2003 movie “Gigli,” which began filming in 2001. Affleck and Lopez brought their on-screen romance to their personal lives, and began dating in 2002. They got engaged in November that same year, but their relationship, unfortunately, did not last.

After their whirlwind romance ended in 2004, Lopez and Affleck both moved on and dated other people. Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005, and the couple stayed together through trials and tribulations until their marriage finally came to an end in 2018. Lopez on the other hand has had a number of public relationships over the course of her career. She married singer Marc Anthony just five months after her split with Affleck, and the two were married until 2014, although they had announced their separation in 2011.

Lopez then dated dancer Casper Smart from 2011 until 2016. Shortly after, she dated and was engaged to baseball player Alex Rodriguez until the two announced their breakup in early 2021. Both Affleck and Lopez were finally single at the same time, and they found a chance to reconnect with one another. In April 2021, Lopez and Affleck began spending time together again, according to Harper’s Bazaar. Just a month later, the two jetted off to Montana together for a weeklong vacation.

PEOPLE reported that Bennifer has been working on their rekindled relationship despite the long distance between them -- Affleck lives in Los Angeles, California, while Lopez lives in Miami, Florida. A source revealed to People that the two “have kept in touch every single day since their Montana trip” and they are “committed to making things work.”

Although Bennifer has resurfaced, it’s hard to forget about the pain and heartache the two suffered following their huge breakup in the early 2000s. In an unearthed interview on “The Graham Norton Show” in 2010, Lopez revealed exactly why she and Affleck called it quits. The widespread media attention had been tumultuous to their relationship, as their frequent appearances in multiple tabloids became difficult to handle.“It was a lot, honestly,” Lopez said. “I’ve never really talked about it before, and I love Ben, he’s a great guy, but it was a lot for both of us to be under that type of siege for two years straight.” Lopez explained how they were on the cover of every magazine every week and the media attention was relentless.

"Our relationship did suffer because of that. That was one of the reasons. I mean, I would never blame the media for anything, but it definitely played a part of the dynamic of our relationship," Lopez said. Despite their first relationship not working out, Lopez and Affleck stayed friends. In 2021, they decided to take another shot at being a couple, and are currently seeing where their relationship will go in the future.
