Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck Lucky To Have 'Second Chance'

Jul 22, 2021 by apost team

Ever since the breakup of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez's relationship earlier this year, the 51-year-old actress has been one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelorettes. But before there was even a moment to consider who the singer/dancer/actress might begin a relationship with next, the world was stunned to learn of the rumors that she was reuniting with her ex-fiancé, 48-year-old Ben Affleck.

For anybody who remembers the early aughts, "Bennifer," as they were dubbed, were the hottest couple in Hollywood. First meeting in 2001 on the set of their movie "Gigli," the couple began dating in 2002 and were incredibly public with their love. After getting engaged in November of that year, they looked destined for a lifetime together until all of a sudden they were over by early 2004. The public never truly found out what happened between Bennifer, but it seems their story wasn't finished.

After Lopez's engagement to Rodriguez went south earlier this year, it wasn't long before the multihyphenate was pictured with Affleck, sparking rumors of a reunion. In the following weeks, the pair were spotted together multiple times, including on a trip to Wyoming. As more photos emerged, it became clear that the time for Bennifer 2.0 had arrived.

And if those photos aren’t enough to convince Bennifer skeptics who remember the relationship’s downfall in 2004, a July 21 People Magazine exclusive quotes a source close to the couple who claims that the two lovebirds are really in love and trying to make their relationship work — the second time around.

"Even though their split many years ago was devastating for Jennifer, she has never had a bad word to say about Ben,” the anonymous source, who is close to Lopez, told People.

"She believes that it just wasn't meant to be then and feels like they've been given a second chance," the source added.

Recently, Lopez was spotted in Los Angeles touring schools in the city. Having been based in Miami for the last few years — where her two children attend school — it appears that Lopez may be making the move back to L.A. It signals that she and Affleck may be getting serious already, and considering their past, it makes sense that they'd waste no time in continuing their life together.

"They want to do everything they can to make this work," the People source said of Affleck and Lopez’s rekindled relationship.

Additionally, the source explained that Lopez’s children Max and Emme “are on board with starting fresh in L.A.”

Whether or not the couple can continue to fit their lives together in a comfortable way remains to be seen, but both the couple and the inside source seem optimistic. What is already clear is that the couple's children will be playing a big role in their decisions going forward.

Affleck shares three children with his former wife of thirteen years, Jennifer Garner. He's noted to actively co-parent with Garner, being an active part of his children's lives, and even staying in close contact with his former wife.

Similarly, Lopez also has two children from her former marriage to Marc Anthony. She is also notably involved in her children's lives, making sure that her twins never take a backseat to her career and work.

It's no surprise that both parents want their children to be okay with the couples' relationship.

"Family and kids are everything to (J. Lo)," a source explained to Us Weekly, adding also that Lopez wants to "respect" Garner, 49, as much as possible. "She's more than willing to be patient and do this at a pace that's comfortable to all parties, there's no rush."

However, it seems the couple has already found ways to fit their families and lives together while also thoroughly enjoying their rekindled flame. For an interview on the Apple Music radio show, Lopez told host Zane Lowe:

"I've never been better. I've really gotten to a place in my life where I'm great on my own. And I think once you get to that place, then amazing things happen to you that you never imagine in your life happening again … I just want everybody to know that it's the best time. It's the best time of my life."

Of course, the seeming speed with which Affleck and Lopez have picked up their relationship makes some fans and onlookers do a double-take. After all, People reports that the couple called off their engagement in 2004, which doesn’t exactly bode well for most long-term relationships. But it isn’t just the anonymous source who is optimistic. As People reports, “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb remarked that Lopez looks a lot happier in recent snapshots. Kotb then followed up the comment by asking the actress whether she really is happier.

"You can call me. You have my number!" Lopez joked, dodging the question.
