Actress Jennifer Lopez and her husband, former professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez, took to Instagram on Monday to show their fans how to take advantage of the outdoors and turn your backyard into a baseball field.

With music playing in the background, the Instagram video showed the two celebrities playing catch with their kids, 12-year-old Emme and Max, to take advantage of the good weather in their palatial backyard.

"No Opening Day. No Sunday Night Baseball. No sell-out crowds. No seventh-inning stretch rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame." No problem! Since we can’t go out to the ballgame right now, we had it here," wrote Rodriguez on Instagram.

Rodriguez’s impromptu practice session included catching, throwing, fly ball and batting practice for the whole family. Lopez, who showed off her excellent catching and batting skills, wore snakeskin-print activewear while her husband sported a pair of shades and some comfy sweatpants.

"We hit, we threw, we played catch, we caught ground balls and pop flies,” Rodriguez added. “We laughed. We exercised. It's a reminder of how much fun you can have with people you love... with just a bat, glove and few balls."

Rodriguez went on to write that the family plays baseball every weekend as part of Saturday Game of the Week. And beyond encouraging his nearly 4 million Instagram followers to get out and exercise with loved ones, Rodriguez also emphasized the importance of “social connection,” writing that everyone needs to take care of their mental and physical health, especially during the current period of social isolation.

For those that don’t follow baseball, Rodriguez was not just some random professional; he is considered one of the best ball players of all time. In a Fox Sports article, one writer described Rodriguez as one of MLB’s all-time greats, writing, “There was no need for a learning curve — he immediately made grown men look like they were playing an antiquated game.” Unfortunately, Rodriguez’s stellar career performance was overshadowed by controversy after officials found out that the athlete cheated by taking steroids from 2001 to 2003. But despite Rodriguez’s missteps, the former star athlete is undeniably talented and can teach us all a few things about how to elevate our baseball game.

We can all be a little jealous that Rodriguez’s family has a professional and world-famous athlete as a personal trainer. But luckily for fans, Rodriguez seems happy to share his workout tips and motivation via social media — and his words are inspiring.

The athlete closed out his popular post, which has over one million views, with a little positive advice for everyone: “Find ways to exercise. Find ways to reduce stress. Find ways to stay in touch with those you can’t be with in person right now,” the athlete said. "Stay connected, and most importantly, stay safe!”
