Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up About Cosmetic Surgery With Characteristic Honesty

Jennifer Lawrence went to The Cut to talk about her new hair care brand. The interview became about something else almost immediately.

Lawrence, 36, launched Mes° on October 27, 2026 — a biodesigned hair care line she co-founded with Jasmina Aganovic, an MIT-trained chemical and biological engineer and founder of biotech startup Arcaea. The brand launches with three products: a Multitask Repair Mask, an Off-Duty Restyling Serum, and a Good Roots Volume Mist. The name is pronounced “mess.” Lawrence chose it deliberately. “I knew that I wanted my imaginary hair product one day to be called Mes°, because I didn’t want to make something that was for overstyled perfect hair,” she said.

The brand has been three years in the making, driven by Lawrence’s own experience in Hollywood’s glam chairs. “When you are a new and upcoming actress, you can’t be like, ‘Don’t put that on my hair,’” she told The Cut. Years of coloring, styling, and heat treatments for film roles left her looking for products that prioritized damage repair without an elaborate routine. “More products, more steps, more time and more maintenance. I don’t think it should be that way.”

In the same interview, Lawrence was candid about her cosmetic procedures — confirming she has had a breast lift and saying she plans to get a facelift at some point. She also discussed Botox. She was frank about the physical changes of having two children and what that meant for how she approaches her appearance. “Everything bounced back, pretty much, after the first one,” she said. “Second one, nothing bounced back.”

She also said she wants to be a “sexy mom” at school drop-off. That quote circulated fastest.

The Mes° launch places Lawrence in a growing category of actresses who have turned their relationship with the beauty industry into a business. What distinguishes the Mes° pitch is its biotech foundation. Aganovic’s Arcaea uses biological engineering to develop beauty ingredients — a direction Lawrence described as the right match for what she wanted to build.

She has been thinking about this for years. The name Mes° existed in her head before the brand did. The partner she needed was Aganovic, whose TED Talk Lawrence came across and which she described as a turning point. “I knew that was the person I wanted to make something with,” she said.

The cosmetic surgery disclosure — handled with the same directness Lawrence has brought to every public conversation she has ever entered — generated its own separate wave of coverage. She confirmed procedures that have been the subject of ongoing public speculation and added a future intention. She was not performing vulnerability or seeking approval. She was answering questions.

Lawrence has two sons with her husband, art dealer Cooke Maroney, whom she married in October 2019. She is currently working on a new film. The brand launched on October 27. The mask is designed to be slept in. The serum addresses what she calls “floofs.” The volume mist kept her hair going during a film shoot when she could only wash it once a week.

She went in to talk about hair products. The hair products are, by her account, genuinely good. The interview covered considerably more ground than that — but then, Jennifer Lawrence interviews usually do. She has never found a question she was not willing to answer with complete candor, and The Cut did not run short of questions.
