“Dirty Dancing” was one of the biggest surprise film hits of the 1980s, and it catapulted its two main stars, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, into the spotlight. Prior to her rise to fame, Grey had other moments of success with “Reckless” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” While Swayze went on to have an illustrious career after, Grey surprisingly receded from the public eye.

The film’s success was unexpected, which made their instant fame even trickier to navigate. Regardless, the movie has continued to live on as one of Hollywood’s standout hits from the 1980s and is still a fan favorite for many.

Grey left the spotlight in the decade following the film’s release. She didn’t open up about why that was the case until many years later. After more than three decades following the release of “Dirty Dancing,” Grey opened up about a tragic car accident that changed the course of her life.

Taking the time she needed to heal and find her passion for acting again, she did eventually get back into the entertainment industry. She has since continued to act in movies and television shows in more minor roles and even appeared on “Dancing With the Stars,” where she was able to show off her outstanding dancing abilities.

Grey is now 62 years old and still looks absolutely breathtaking. While her personal struggles have made her story incredibly touching, Grey is now strong-willed and has plenty of confidence from her hardships.
In her book, she opened up about details of her life that might have previously not been known, such as her engagement to the iconic actor Johnny Depp.

Grey has made many public appearances in recent years. The actress had a phenomenal season while dancing her way through “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC. She quickly rose to be a fan and judge favorite and danced away with the title as the winner of season 11 of the show.

“I’ve always been interested in living my best life and pursuing the things I love and being physically strong and resilient enough to have the physical strength to do just that,” she said. “I have this desire to maintain a certain vitality, but like most of us, it’s declining slightly because of the aging process. I believe in our lifetime we’re going to see a huge change because science is on our side.”

Grey has not stopped working on her overall well-being as it is incredibly important to her. “There’s so much that I’m powerless over, but I have power over what I eat, how I structure my life and who I spend time with,” she explained

Grey can recently be seen posting to her fun Instagram page with a look into her life and activities. She was most recently telling Drew Barrymore that a “Dirty Dancing” sequel is in the works that will take place in some of the original movie’s iconic summer camp.

This is undoubtedly exciting news for "Dirty Dancing" fans! While Grey's career has been taking on a new life recently, details about her personal life have also been a point of interest for many.

On Jul. 21, 2001, Grey married actor and director Clark Gregg, and they have one child together named Stella. The two starred in “The Road to Christmas” together in 2006. Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last, and their divorce was finalized on Feb. 16, 2021.

Before her marriage to Gregg, Grey had actually dated some of America’s most favorite and famous actors. From actors such as Matthew Broderick to journalists like Geroge Stephanopoulos, Grey has dated some eligible bachelors throughout her life before settling down. In fact, the actress even went on to date Johnny Depp and said that shortly after meeting Depp, the two hit it off right away.

In her memoir “Out of the Corner,” she says the relationship started wonderfully.

“We ate, talked, drank Jack Daniel’s, laughed our asses off, took cigarette breaks midcourse. He was so ridiculously beautiful. And surprisingly open, funny, quirky and sweet…” she wrote

The two got engaged within only two weeks. During this time in 1989, both Grey and Depp’s careers were ramping up. She admitted that it was around this time that their relationship started to change. “Johnny was commuting every week back and forth from Vancouver, but had begun more and more regularly to be getting into trouble: fights in bars, skirmishes with cops,” she wrote

“He’d started missing his flights home to LA having overslept or, when he did come home, he’d be crazy jealous and paranoid about what I’d been up to while he was gone. I attributed his ill temper and unhappiness to him feeling miserable and powerless to get off [the TV series] ‘21 Jump Street.”

She ended the relationship in March before her 29th birthday. Recently, while making an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Grey stated she was engaged to Depp and Broderick in the same month.

“It was really a sign that there was trouble afoot on my part. I mean honestly, I just thought it was God rescuing me from one bad situation,” she said

While on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Grey gushed over her past relationship with not only Depp but Broderick as well. Host Drew Barrymore asked, "Is it true that Johnny Depp after dating for a few weeks?" she asked

"It's worse than that," Grey admitted excitedly. The actress and star dancer went on to admit to the world, "I was engaged to Matthew Broderick and Johnny Depp in the same month," she said

"I mean honestly I just thought it was God rescuing me from one bad situation and just lovingly plopping me into a Johnny Depp souffle," Grey admitted. "You have to understand Johnny Depp, 1989 Johnny Depp, so beautiful," the star gushed

Barrymore and Grey also went on to talk about Grey's past relationship with Schwayze.

"Chemistry is very different," Grey said. "The body has a different story than the mind right?" she asked. "So my body and his body really liked each other. There's an energy where it doesn't make sense in life, but it makes sense between the sheets," Grey said

Despite Schwayze being married at the time, Grey and her co-star would never of worked due to the lack of real-life chemistry. Without a public love life, Grey seems to be very happy and complete. After announcing that there will be a "Dirty Dancing" sequel, Grey will have her hands and schedule busy as she gets ready for her new movie release.
