If you’re wondering what film or TV show you know Jennifer Coolidge from, the better question to ask yourself is what project hasn’t she been in. The actress has been working in Hollywood for several decades, first finding her footing in the industry back in the 1990s. Since then, she has become a massive star and has finally received the recognition she deserves.

Coolidge was born on Aug. 28, 1961, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was raised in Norwell. She found a love of the arts early on, playing the clarinet and attending orchestra camp during her childhood. Coolidge later attended Emerson College in Boston before going on to further her studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. In New York, she waitressed to make ends meet alongside fellow aspiring star Sandra Bullock.

While Coolidge once had dreams of becoming a dramatic actress, she found her way to stardom with her impeccable comedic timing and charismatic demeanor. Finally, in 1999, she got her big break with a role in “American Pie.” Afterward, she continued to land roles, proving that she belonged in the movie and TV world. People nowadays most likely recognize the star for her roles in “Legally Blonde,” “2 Broke Girls” and “The White Lotus.”

Although Coolidge has been in the industry for quite some time now and has received nominations over the years, she has only recently received prestigious awards. While she has won several awards during her career, it wasn’t until 2022 and 2023 that Coolidge could finally call herself a Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actress.

And the overdue recognition has been overwhelming and life-changing for Coolidge.

Coolidge has made a name for herself with a plethora of roles. In television, she has appeared in “2 Broke Girls,” “Friends” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” In film, she has been in “American Pie,” “Legally Blonde,” “A Cinderella Story” and “Click.”

But before she found fame, Coolidge did what most aspiring actors and actresses do – wait tables. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Coolidge talked about waitressing with Bullock. “Sandra really had her act together and she was the hostess,” she said. “But I was partying a lot in those years so it was sort of 50-50 whether I made the shift or not.”

Being a waitress clearly wasn’t Coolidge’s calling, and she has since found fame as an actress. Coolidge has consistently gotten work in Hollywood as time has passed, but she credited Ariana Grande as being a catalyst for the turning point in her career.

During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Coolidge explained that Grande’s “unbelievable” impression of her was “sort of the beginning of a lot of cool things that happened” for her.

She told Jimmy Fallon, “I was going through a dead zone and not much was going on. And then Ariana did this imitation on your show and you encouraged her and then this ball got rolling.”

So, Coolidge messaged Grande on Twitter, and the two instantly became friends, thus leading to Coolidge’s appearance in Grande’s “Thank U Next” music video. The video highlighted films from the early 2000s, including “Legally Blonde.” Coolidge reprised her role as Paulette Bonafonté and gave Grande relationship advice.

Afterward, Coolidge picked up more jobs, including one the most important roles in her career – Tanya McQuoid in the black comedy-drama anthology series “The White Lotus.”

The show brought Coolidge a new wave of fame and fans, and she received several awards for her work on the series. She won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2022 and a Golden Globe Award in 2023. She explained that her career changed “in the blink of an eye,” launching her into “superstar” success.

“The fact it’s been so well-received and celebrated has been life-changing,” Coolidge shared.

Upon winning her first Emmy ever, Coolidge said, “Hey, hi. Wow, thank you. Gosh. What a night. I just want to say to my fellow nominees, just to be in your company, it’s incredible.” She called the moment a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.

She continued, “I had such big dreams and expectations as a younger person, but what happened is they get sort of fizzled by life. I thought I was going to be queen of Monaco even though someone else did it.”

Speaking to “The White Lotus” writer and director Mike White, Coolidge said, “You have given me hope. You’ve given me a new beginning. ... You changed my life in a million different ways.”

Coolidge’s career has continued to pick up traction and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon, as “Legally Blonde 3” appears to have been announced, according to IMDB. She is reported to star in the film alongside Reese Witherspoon, just like in the first two installments.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Witherspoon said she wouldn’t do the third installment without Coolidge. Coolidge happily responded to the comment:

“Of course, I would be on board. I’ve been hearing about it for a long time. Maybe it really is happening at this point. I would absolutely love to do ‘Legally Blonde 3.’”
