Jenna Dewan Recalled Unforgettable 'Moment' With Steve Kazee Years Before Their Romantic Relationship

When Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum announced that they were splitting up in 2018, the world was shocked and heartbroken for them. The pair first began dating back in 2006 after they met on the set of the film “Step Up.” They married three years later in Malibu, California, and welcomed a daughter in 2013. However, in April 2018, they announced that they were separating, and Dewan ultimately filed for divorce six months later. In November 2019, the famous couple was officially divorced.

Dewan is best known for her work as a dancer and as an actress. She started off her career as a backup dancer for several artists, including Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. Her role as Nora Clark in “Step Up” went on to earn her widespread fame and recognition. Dewan also went on to star in “The Playboy Club,” “Supergirl” and “The Rookie.” She also used her dancing skill set in a new way by hosting the reality shows “World of Dance” and “Flirty Dancing.”

Tatum is also an actor, best known for his roles in a variety of film genres. Some of the movies he’s been in include “Magic Mike,” “21 Jump Street” and “Dear John.” The world fell in love with his and Dewan’s romance following their time in “Step Up,” but has since adjusted to their new lives as individuals.

Since then, Dewan has talked more about her divorce and her new relationship, and is now enjoying life with her current partner – a mysterious man from her past.

When Tatum and Dewan announced that they were splitting up, the world was completely shocked, as they had typically spoken very highly of each other. Back in February 2018, Dewan spoke with Health about her marriage to Tatum. “When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one’s perfect,” she said. “I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we’ve really grown together.” Dewan also said that they had a “real tangible physical connection” with each other.”

However, in April 2018, Tatum went to Twitter to announce that he and Dewan were separating. “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,” the pair wrote. They expressed how they fell in love many years prior and still had love for each other, but felt they needed to embark on two separate paths.

Dewan later opened up more about her relationship with Tatum in her book “Gracefully You: Finding Beauty and Balance in the Everyday.” According to Yahoo, she said, “I’d come to realize the dynamic I was in wasn’t serving me nor was it serving my daughter. First and foremost I had to accept the realization this isn’t working and had moved into hurting.”

Dewan added, “The public saw Channing and me in this idealized, romanticized light… Let me tell you firsthand, when it comes to the lives of celebrities, a picture never tells you the whole story. Everyone struggles. Every couple has their issues, celebrity or not.”

In October 2018 – just a few months after Tatum and Dewan announced their separation – PEOPLE announced that Dewan was dating someone new – actor Steve Kazee.

Kazee is an actor and singer best known for his role as Guy in the musical “Once,” which earned him a Tony Award in 2012. He has also appeared in several other Broadway productions, and was also in the fifth season of “Shameless.”

A source told PEOPLE that Dewan and Kazee had “been dating for a couple (of) months and she’s really happy.” The news of Dewan’s relationship broke just a few weeks after it was confirmed that Tatum was also in a new relationship with singer Jessie J. However, the latter pair broke up in 2020, and Tatum is now with Zoe Kravitz.

In October 2019, Dewan spoke with Us Weekly about her relationship with Kazee. “He was in a show called ‘Once’ on Broadway, seven years ago, and I went to see the show, and I was blown away by him and his talent, crying my eyes out,” Dewan gushed. “And I took my mom, and we got to meet him.”

The actress continued, "I was pushing her forward to say hi, and Steve and I just had one of those eye-catching moments," and added, "It was very quick, but it struck us both. It was a moment. My mom and I told him what a great job he did... that was it. We both went off into the night. But I never forgot the moment."

Dewan explained how the universe brought the two of them together. She said:

“Years later, I’m single and everything’s different and he reached out to me. He was like, ‘I never forgot meeting you.’ That was a really cool moment. Like I say all the time, ‘The universe works in very mysterious wonderful ways.’”

In February 2020, Dewan and Kazoo announced they were engaged. In March that same year, they welcomed their son, Callum, into the world.
