Jeff Bridges is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation. As the recipient of numerous awards, honors and accolades, it’s no surprise that Bridges has maintained a successful career for the majority of his life. Along with that, he has also found everlasting love with his longtime wife.

Bridges was born on Dec. 4, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, into a home of celebrities. He is the son of actor Lloyd Bridges and actress and writer Dorothy Bridges. Bridges’ older brother, Beau, is also an actor. Growing up with such a talented and esteemed family, Bridges learned the ins and outs of the entertainment industry early on, touring alongside his father for stage productions and even appearing alongside him and Beau in the television series “Sea Hunt.”

Bridges’ career only escalated from that point on, as he went on to star in a plethora of critically acclaimed productions. A handful of the many films Bridges has starred in include “Crazy Heart,” “True Grit,” “The Big Lebowski” and “Iron Man.”

While the actor has had his fair share of success, he has also faced a few hardships during his lifetime. In October 2020, he announced that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma. Almost a year later, Bridges said his cancer was in remission.

Through all of the ups and downs, Bridges has had the help and companionship of his longtime wife, Susan Geston. The pair have been married for a total of 44 years and are still going incredibly strong. Read on to find out more about their beautiful love story.

The First Time They Met

In an interview with the Oprah Winfrey Network, Bridges talked about the first time he met Geston in 1974. Back then, Bridges was already an established actor and was filming a new movie, “Rancho Deluxe,” in Montana. Bridges first spotted Geston when he and the rest of the cast were filming in a hot tub.

As he was filming his scenes, Bridges became enamored with Geston, who was a waitress at the time. A few years later, Geston entered the entertainment industry herself, having a brief acting and producing career. She appeared in “Forbidden Zone” in 1980 and was an associate producer on “Cold Feet” in 1989.

Recalling the first time he saw Geston, Bridges admitted that it was love at first sight, according to the Daily Mail. It wasn’t long before Bridges asked Geston out on a date, but she turned the established star down. However, the pair bumped into each other once again just a few nights later and ended up dancing the night away at a bar. It seemed like that was the spark that lit the match, and the rest is history.

For a brief moment, it seemed like the pair wouldn’t make it, as Bridges originally had no intention of settling down and starting a family, but he ultimately didn’t want to lose Geston and their budding relationship. However, the couple has remained very devoted to one another since.

On June 5, 1977, Bridges and Geston tied the knot, just five days after Bridges proposed to Geston. The pair have since gone on to have a beautiful life together. They have three daughters: Isabelle, Jessica and Haley. Bridges and Geston are the proud grandparents of one granddaughter.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple lived together in Montecito until November 2019, when they sold their Montecito ranch to return to Montana, the place where they fell in love. Reflecting on the many years he’s been with his wife, Bridges said that he was grateful for everything that made them different.

“I’ve been really blessed,” Bridges said. “We are quite different as people, and we celebrate that rather than making it drive us apart. I respect her wisdom.” Bridges and Geston’s kids also see the love their parents have for each other. “They love each other, but they like each other, they spend time together,” daughter Isabelle said. “They make an effort to ask each other questions about what the other is interested in.”

Many other people have also witnessed the love shared between Bridges and Geston and have marveled at their 44-year marriage. In fact, about a decade after he married Geston, Bridges received a letter from a makeup artist who had worked on “Rancho Deluxe.” In the letter, the makeup artist explained that he had taken two pictures of Bridges’ first meeting with Geston and included it with the letter. Bridges has since carried the photos with him in his wallet everywhere he goes, as they are his most prized possessions.

It’s evident that Bridges loves his family dearly and appreciates all of the time he is able to spend with them. “Time goes so fast, and it’s so precious,” the actor said. “To spend it with people you love, there’s nothing richer than that.”
