Jay-Z Said He And Beyonce Forgot To Stand For National Anthem At Superbowl

Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z attended this weekend's Super Bowl at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami along with their daughter Blue Ivy. The two musicians stayed for the game and were seen seated with Blue during Demi Lovato's national anthem performance

Now, the couple insists they did not do so out of protest, but simply because they "forgot."

While Lovato sang on the field and the majority of the stadium stood up, the Carters were seen on camera staying in their seats as per a video on TMZ. It was unclear if the decision to sit down was a protest move, much like Colin Kapernick's "taking a knee" moment against police brutality, reports Newsweek.

Jay Z, however, insists the move had no motive behind it. The 50-year-old singer assured students at a Colombia University Q&A that he, his wife, and his daughter simply forgot to stand up.

"My wife was with me and so she says to me, 'I know this feeling right here'. Like, she’s super-nervous because she’s performed at Super Bowls before... I haven’t," he explained.

"So we get there and we immediately jump into artist mode… now I’m really just looking at the show," he added.

Carter went on to reveal they didn't realize what had happened until after the performance was already over.

"So the whole time we’re sitting there, we’re talking about the performance, and then right after that, Demi comes out and we’re talking about how beautiful she looked, and how she sounds and what she’s going through, and her life — for her to be on the stage, we were so proud of her," he said.

"And then it finished and then my phone rang. And it was like, 'You know you didn’t…' I’m like, 'What?'," he added.
