Jay-Z Has Officially Become A Billionaire

Jay-Z is the first-ever hip-hop artist to become a billionaire.

The award-winning rapper made the cover of Forbes Magazine this month. The article flashed back to a 2010 meeting between Jay-Z and billionaire Warren Buffet. When the two parted ways, Buffet came away with nothing but good things to say about the rapper. 

“Jay is teaching in a lot bigger classroom than I’ll ever teach in,” Buffet said. “For a young person growing up, he’s the guy to learn from.”

Now, less than 10 years later, Jay-Z has built his own empire. Apart from his music, his impressive portfolio includes brands that he built from the bottom up, like Tidal, his streaming service, the Rocawear clothing line, and D’Ussé, a cognac he co-owns with Bacardi. His net-worth also includes art, real estate and stakes in other companies. After surveying his assets, Forbes Magazine determined that they “conservatively totals $1 billion.”

Forbes also brought in experts from the outside to ensure their numbers were as accurate as possible.

"To calculate his net worth, we looked at the artist’s stakes in companies like Armand de Brignac champagne—applying our customary discount to private firms—then added up his income, subtracting a healthy amount to account for a superstar lifestyle. We checked our numbers with a roster of outside experts to ensure these estimates were fair and conservative," the article stated.
