Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were one of the most influential power couples in Hollywood. The couple announced their split in January 2022, shocking fans and the media across the globe. Momoa and Bonet were together for almost 16 years and are the proud parents of 15-year-old daughter Lola Iolani Momoa and son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha, 13, whose parents simply call him Wolf.

Both Momoa and Bonet are accomplished actors. Bonet was one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood in the 1980s and 1990s and rose to fame after starring in "The Cosby Show."

Momoa is an actor and filmmaker who has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry since the late 1990s. He made his acting debut in the action-drama series "Baywatch Hawaii" in 1999 and stayed on the show until 2001. He found even more fame when he was cast as Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of "Game of Thrones" – a show that helped catapult the careers of many of its stars.

Today, the Honolulu native of Hawaiian and Samoan descent is best known for his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. A sequel to the first solo Aquaman film, "Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom," is slated for release in 2023. Momoa also reached an even higher level of success thanks to the film "Dune." He will also star in the 10th installment of the "Fast & Furious" series called "Fast X," alongside Vin Diesel

Although Momoa and Bonet are no longer together, they have continued to co-parent their children. And while neither of their kids is in the limelight yet, Momoa hopes to keep it that way – especially when it comes to his 15-year-old daughter Lola.

Momoa was born on Aug. 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is an only child and was born to creative parents. However, when he was still a baby, Momoa moved to Iowa with his mother and lived there until he graduated from high school. He then returned to Hawaii to attend the University of Hawaii for college.

While it seemed like Momoa was set to lead a relatively simple life on the island, he had a turn of events during his late teens and embarked on a new career path. When he was 19 years old, Momoa decided to audition for the TV series “Baywatch Hawaii.” He clearly made a mark with the casting agents as he landed the role of Jason Ioane, starring on the show from 1999 to 2001. Others in the show included David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, Brooke Burns as Jessie Owens and Stacy Kamano as Kekoa Tanaka.

Afterward, Momoa found more work in the entertainment industry. He made a few appearances in “Stargate: Atlantis” as well as “Johnson Family Vacation” in the early 2000s. The rising star also landed a role in the comedy-drama TV series “The Game,” which also starred Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall.

During the 2000s, Momoa also appeared in a handful of other television shows as well as some movies. However, Momoa’s work in the 2010s and 2020s is what has made him the star he is today. Starting off the 2010s strong, Momoa landed the titular role in the 2011 film “Conan the Barbarian,” which also featured Rose McGowan and Ron Perlman.

Momoa gained more recognition for his role as Khal Drogo in “Game of Thrones.” From 2011 to 2019, the HBO fantasy drama television series was one of the most watched programs, leaving fans all over the world talking about all of its twists and turns. The series was based on the fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin and was filmed in the United Kingdom.

Although the series received plenty of awards and accolades over the years, its final season received backlash from fans and critics alike. However, “Game of Thrones” is still recognized for its brilliance in its earlier seasons, especially for creating such a unique and fantastical world.

Many of its stars went on to find great success following their time on the hit show, although some chose to leave the entertainment industry behind and instead focus on their personal lives. Momoa was only on the series from 2011 to 2012, but it definitely still made an impact on the show and on his career.

In 2014, Momoa showed off more of his talents by directing and co-writing the drama thriller film “Road to Paloma.” Momoa also starred in the film alongside his then-partner Bonet.

Around the same time, Momoa was also reported to have been cast as the superhero Aquaman. He made his first appearance in the role during the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” film in 2016. In late 2018, Momoa starred as the titular character in “Aquaman.” A sequel to the first film is also set to be released in 2023.

Momoa has certainly had a busy career, but he also managed to find time to start a family and search for love. Momoa and his ex, Bonet, have a long history together. The couple met in 2004, but Momoa's crush on Bonet began years before. He told James Corden in an interview that he had been crushing on the actress since the first time he saw her on "The Cosby Show." For Momoa, finally seeing her in person was love at first sight.

While the couple met in 2004, they were never married until October 2017. By then, they had had Lola in July 2007 and Wolf in December 2008. Bonet also had a daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz, in 1988, with her first husband, actor and musician Lenny Kravitz.

Although Bonet didn’t echo Momoa’s feelings of love at first sight, she told Porter Magazine that their relationship began the very same day they met. During a 2018 interview, she said:

“In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do. He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!”

With Momoa’s astonishingly good looks and great charm, it’s not hard to see why Bonet fell for him! The couple got happily married in early October 2017. They invited their close friends and family to an intimate ceremony at their home in Topanga, California. A traditional Māori haka was performed for the couple at the wedding. However, they had been married in their hearts long beforehand.

The same year, Momoa said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that to him, the wedding was just a formality and that he felt he had been married to Bonet the entire time he had known her. “You know what, I've been married to my wife for 12 years,” he said. “It’s just a gathering of our families and celebrating our love.”

All of this is why the couple's split came as such a shock. After 17 years together and five years of marriage, Momoa and Bonet announced that they would be separating. They released a joint statement in January 2022. According to Cosmopolitan, it read:

“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so~ We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become…”

A source told PEOPLE that the tension between the couple had been building for some time and boiled down to them being in entirely different phases in their careers. "A few years ago, Jason was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can," the source said.

While there were previous rumors that the couple had since reconciled and chose to work on their marriage, Page Six reported that this was not the case. “We’re not back together,” Momoa said. “We’re family… We have two beautiful children together.”

It’s alleged that Momoa moved on as he and Bonet are officially separated. In May 2022, PEOPLE reported that multiple sources said that Momoa had started dating Eiza González.

González is a Mexican actress and singer who first found fame when she was just a teenager. Her career started on a high as she received recognition for her debut role as Lola Valente in the Mexican musical telenovela “Lola, érase una vez,” which aired from 2007 to 2008. She then went on to star in the leading role of Clara Molina on the teen drama series “Sueña conmigo.”

Moving forward, González continued to gain more recognition for her work in the horror series “From Dusk till Dawn: The Series,” as well as the action crime film “Baby Driver.” She was recently in the 2019 film “Hobbs & Shaw” and the 2021 film “Godzilla vs. Kong.”

According to PEOPLE, Momoa had been spotted at the premiere of González’s movie “Ambulance,” although the two did not walk the red carpet together. “They are dating,” a source said. “He cares about her. He’s in a great place.” Another source added, “They’re both busy with work but are having fun together. It’s nothing serious yet.”

A source told Entertainment Tonight that the actors started out as friends, but it seemed like there was something more. “Jason and Eiza started as friends, but always had an underlying chemistry,” the source said. “They are seeing each other and things are casual right now. They’re having a good time.”

Even though it seems like Momoa may be moving on, he still has shown great compassion toward his ex. Momoa and Bonet have plans to keep co-parenting and respecting one another in the years to come. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Momoa announced the split, emphasizing that they still love and care for one another.

Despite the split, Momoa has made it clear that he intends to stay in his kids' lives and also that he thoroughly enjoys being a father. His Instagram is filled with loving pictures of him and his children, whom he called his "greatest work of art."

"I want to be remembered as, I hope, an amazing husband and a great father," he said.

While Momoa is close to both of his children, his bond with daughter Lola, who has been seen with at public events many times, is almost too precious to describe.

Just one look at Lola, and it's clear to see she's inherited her parents' Hollywood star looks. Perhaps that's why she's starting to show interest in following in their footsteps. But Momoa isn't too keen on those plans. He told Entertainment Tonight, "Aw man, one of them wants to do it and I'm not a fan."

Momoa continued:

"I don't know. I'll try my damnedest to keep 'em out of it. I love storytelling, I love theatrical things, I like directing and filmmaking, but I just want them to, you know, really to go for other things."

Even though Momoa has shown that he wants his kids to live out their dreams, he still has some apprehensions. The protective side of this father showed when he explained the issue further.

"If they (really) want to, maybe," he said, adding, "But I don't want them to get into acting. It's very hard on people and I don't want them to have that pressure. I'm tough, I can handle it, but I wouldn't want to put someone I love (through) that."

Momoa’s “Sweet Girl” co-star Isabela Merced also weighed in on how hard the entertainment industry can be. She explained, “There’s a lot of, like, extra stuff that comes with acting that you’re like, ‘I didn’t sign up for this!’ But you love it, so you gotta do it.”

Momoa's protective side had also come out during his separation from Bonet, as shown in an Instagram post, which he captioned: "Mahalo to the fans and press for being generous and giving us space for the children it's hard enough separating in the public eye. We appreciate the continued privacy through these times aloha j."

Luckily for Momoa, Lola is still too young to branch out on her own into the film industry. Until then, the involved parent is enjoying spending time with his kids in activities such as joining social causes, going to concerts and attending movie premieres. While Lola already looks the part at all the glam Hollywood events, she'll have to wait a little longer – and somehow get her dad’s blessing! – before making her Tinseltown debut.
