Both Momoa and Bonet are accomplished in their careers. Bonet was one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and she has been nominated for four Young Artist Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award and a Saturn Award.
Momoa made his Hollywood debut a little later, starring in Baywatch: Hawaii in 1999. Today, Momoa is best known for his roles as Aquaman in the DC Universe and Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones.
To understand how and why the couple decided to end their relationship, it’s easier to look back at how it all started. One day in 2004, a mutual friend of both Momoa and Bonet offered to introduce them at a jazz club in New York. Momoa said that he was so excited, he got a haircut to match Bonet’s before they met.
Momoa also had a crush on Bonet all his life. "Ever since I was, like, 8 years old and I saw her on the TV, and I was like, 'Mommy, I want that one' I'm like, 'I'm gonna stalk you for the rest of my life, and I'm gonna get you,'" Momoa joked on "The Late Late Show” in 2017.
‘We just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, ‘I’m Lisa.’ I turned around to my friend and I [pretends to scream]. I had fireworks going off inside, man,” Momoa said.

From that day on, the pair were inseparable. Though Bonet didn’t echo Momoa’s feelings of love at first sight, she said in a 2018 interview with Porter Magazine that their relationship began the very same day they met. “In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do.” She said. “He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!”
On July 21, 2007, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Lola. In December 2008, Jason and Lisa’s second child, son Nakoa-Wolf, was born. Bonet had her first daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz, with her first husband, Lenny Kravitz.
The couple got married in early October 2017. They invited their close friends and family to an intimate ceremony at their home in Topanga, California. A traditional Māori haka was performed for the couple at the wedding.
The same year, Jason said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that to him, the wedding was just a formality, and that he felt he had been married to Bonet the entire time he had known her. “You know what, I've been married to my wife for 12 years,” he said. “It’s just a gathering of our families and celebrating our love.”
And since then, their relationship seemed stronger than ever.
“Jason is an alpha male who stands for love and family. Having an absent father, then to be fully met by a man of that stature, is really incredible,” Bonet said of her husband in 2019.

All of this is why the couple’s split came as such a shock. But an anonymous source told PEOPLE that the tension between the couple had been building for some time. The source went on to explain that each of them is in completely different places in their careers, which made it difficult for them to spend time together.
“A few years ago, Jason was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can,” the source said.
However, there is some hope on the horizon. An anonymous source spoke to Hollywood Life and said that Bonet and Momoa are working on their relationship after announcing their split. They said, "Jason moved back in with Lisa about two weeks ago and they are very much back together.
They also added, "They decided to work on things rather than throw in the towel because they have so much invested in each other."
The course also said that the couple's kids are "obviously thrilled that their parents have given their marriage another shot." A divorce is always hard on the children, so the source concluded, "Everyone is really hoping that they can make this work this time around."
However, neither Momoa nor Bonet have addressed these claims nor have they been spotted together officially. The source has shed some hope for all the fans of this beloved couple, but until the news comes from Bonet or Momoa, news of them getting back together will remain unverified. We wish the couple the best.
