Jamie Lee Curtis Slams Cosmetic Surgery Industry For Leaving ‘Generations Of Women’ Disfigured

It has become more common than not for Hollywood celebrities to do what they can to keep themselves looking as young as possible. Cosmetic procedures, expensive treatments – you name it, they have done it. Jamie Lee Curtis used to be a celebrity who would go to great lengths to make sure that she looked good. But she has since realized what is best for her.
Like most women, Curtis used to be constantly criticized for her appearance. But at 66 years old, the Hollywood icon no longer feels the pressure to conform to these standards and hasn’t for a long time. She has a full head of white hair and no longer dyes it. She has also quit wearing high heels. Now, she has become one of the most vocal celebrities on issues concerning self-love and acceptance.
Curtis spoke on the topic of appearances with Lorraine Keane in 2021.
“I have been an advocate for natural beauty for a long time, mostly because I’ve had the trial and error of the other part,” she said, adding that she herself had gone under the knife, to disastrous effect.
“I did plastic surgery – it didn’t work. I hated it. It made me feel worse.”
The star continued, “I’ve also been an advocate for not (messing) with your face. And the term’ anti-aging.’ What? What are you talking about? We’re all going to age. We’re all gonna die. Why do you want to look 17 when you’re 70? I want to look 70 when I’m 70!”
Since then, Curtis has remained steadfast in her convictions about beauty. However, in 2025, she took it a notch further by slamming today’s unreasonable beauty standards and the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries for contributing to the “genocide of a generation of women” and leaving them “disfigured.”

Curtis’s July 2025 interview with The Guardian included photos of the star posing in exaggeratedly large wax lips. This was not by accident, with the actress saying she wanted to drive home her beliefs about today’s toxic beauty culture.
“The wax lips is my statement against plastic surgery. I’ve been very vocal about the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who’ve disfigured themselves. The wax lips really sends it home,” she said.
Curtis also made no apologies for using the word “genocide,” saying it was appropriate for the times.
“I’ve used that word for a long time and I use it specifically because it’s a strong word. I believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human (appearance). The concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, surgical procedures, fillers – there’s a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances,” she said.
Curtis also railed against AI and filters, saying they distorted people’s perceptions, “because now the filter face is what people want.”
“But what’s better? Better is fake,” she stressed.
She also pointed the finger at public figures who have played a part in this, saying their own behavior has led to the normalization of cosmetic and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
“And there are too many examples – I will not name them – but very recently we have had a big onslaught through media, many of those people,” she remarked.
However, despite her fierce stance against such procedures, she conceded that she does not judge other women who choose to undergo them.
“No. No. Because I don’t care. It doesn’t matter. I’m not proselytising to them,” she said, adding, “I would never say a word. I would never say to someone: what have you done? All I know is that it is a never-ending cycle. That, I know. Once you start, you can’t stop. But it’s not my job to give my opinion; it’s none of my business.”
