Jamie Lee Curtis' dynamic acting career transcends over four decades. Although she is the offspring of two talented Hollywood movie stars, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, she did not initially want to be an actress.
Curtis' breakthrough role came in 1978 when the then 19-year-old Curtis starred as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's horror movie classic "Halloween." Although the award-winning actress is heavily associated with horror films, her dynamic acting abilities have helped her create a diverse portfolio of hit movies across several genres.
According to Movie Web, Curtis' most memorable movies include "Knives Out," "A Fish Called Wanda," "My Girl" and "Freaky Friday."
With her extensive acting credentials, many would be surprised that it was only in January 2023 that Curtis was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the A24 film "Everything Everywhere All At Once." Along with her co-stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu, the four main characters all received competitive acting nominations from the Academy.
In the 2023 awards season, Curtis has racked up plenty of nominations for her role as the IRS auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the film. So far, she has won the Best Supporting Actress Awards from the San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle, Alliance of Women Film Journalists and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Curtis, one of the frontrunners in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2023 Oscars, was invited to the annual dinner party held in honor of the nominees. However, due to a pretty valid reason, the 64-year-old actress skipped it so that she could stick to her routine. Read on to learn more about what it is!

Curtis has been known not just for her elegance, grace and wit, but also for the impeccable showmanship and humility that she has displayed throughout her career.
At the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Curtis was snapped in an incredible moment when fellow actress Yeoh received the award for Best Actress. She was candidly captured on camera wildly celebrating Yeoh’s win – which others have seen to be a great example of women supporting women. Their incredible moment went viral on social media, with hundreds of memes being circulated online.
Since then, the love, adoration and support for Curtis have exponentially grown, with many anticipating her big win at the 2023 Oscars. However, during the red carpet of the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards, Curtis confessed to The Hollywood Reporter she was bowing out on an important Oscars tradition – attending the private nominees’ dinner.
"Now you might say, 'Jamie, you're nominated for an Academy Award. You're gonna be in the room with only nominees for the Academy Award,' and I have declined," she detailed.
Per Curtis, the nominees' dinner was scheduled to start at 7:30 in the evening.
"Why? Because mommy goes to bed early," Curtis cheekily confessed. “Cause 7:30 is gonna be 9 before we get food, and you know what? There's nothing good happening with me after 9 o'clock. Nothing. Zero!"
Curtis’ fans were in unison in their response – they understand and relate to her valid reason!
“I didn’t think I could become a bigger fan of her at this point, but I CHEERED as a fellow go to bed early fan,” a fan commented.
“This is a great example of why she's all of us,” another shared.
