Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals Her Struggle With Finding Love 'As The Product Of 13 Divorces'

Jamie Lee Curtis' dynamic acting career transcends over four decades. Although the offspring of two talented Hollywood movie stars, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, Jamie Lee did not initially want to be an actress. According to Biography.com, Jaime Lee Curtis was attending the University of the Pacific when she decided to try her hand at acting. Curtis auditioned for the role of the brilliant teenage detective Nancy Drew. After not receiving the part and only finishing one semester of college, Curtis dropped out of school and began to focus on her acting career. 

Jamie Lee Curtis' breakthrough role came in 1978 when the then 19-year-old Curtis starred as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's horror movie classic "Halloween." This role paved her way in Hollywood and put her in the ranking of one of the greatest scream queens of her generation. In 1997, the actress was induction into Fangoria's Hall of Fame. Although the award-winning actress is heavily associated with horror films, her dynamic acting abilities have helped her create a diverse portfolio of hit movies across several genres. According to Movie Web, Curtis' most memorable movies include "Knives Out," "A Fish Called Wanda," "My Girl," and "Freaky Friday."

During her rise to superstardom, the Golden Globe-winning actress wed Christopher Guest on December 18, 1984, just a few short months after meeting. Although the couple has been married for over three decades and shares two adopted children, Annie and Ruby, Jamie Lee opened up about how her immediate family's long history of divorce affected her perception of love.

On January 19, 2022, Jaime Lee Curtis shared a rare black and white photo of her parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, on Instagram. Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis wed in 1951. From 1951 50 1954, the couple starred in several movies together. On June 17, 1956, the couple welcomed their first daughter named Kelly Lee Curtis. A couple of years later, on November 22, 1958, they welcomed their second daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis. Although one of Hollywood's favorite A-list couples, the couple divorced in 1962. Jaime Lee was still a child. In the Instagram post, Jaime Lee reflects on her viewpoint of love and how her family's history of divorces corrupted it. 

"My sister sent me this. Once in a while when their images find me unexpectedly, I'm caught by not only their extreme beauty but their deep love and ambition," she wrote.  

"As the product of 13 divorces in my immediate family I have often struggled with the idea of love, what happens to it? There are only a couple reminders to me that I was born from love and not resentment, competition, jealousy and rancor which are the cornerstones of any unpleasant divorce."

"I also forget that they were famous and loved worldwide," the famed actress added, hinting at her parent's legacy. "Happy hump day Janet and Tony. Thanks for love and life!"

According to CBS News, after divorcing her mother in 1962, Tony Curtis went on and married five more times. On the other hand, Janet Leigh only married once more after her divorce to her third husband, Tony Curtis. The Hollywood star married Robert Brandt in 1962. The couple stayed married until she died in 2004.

Jaime Lee Curtis has been married to Christopher Guest for over 37 years. On the couple's 36th wedding anniversary, the award-winning actress took to Instagram to pay tribute to her husband and their beautiful marriage. 

"One of the longest relationships I've had seeking comfort and contact and connection is with Chris," the actress captioned a black-and-white photo of them holding hands. "Today marks the 36th anniversary of our wedding."

"My hand in his. Then and now. Connected through our children and family and friends it became the links in our human emotional chain that have seen each of us through triumph and tragedy," she concluded.

In an interview with Hello Magazine, the Halloween star and her husband, Christopher Guest, shared their best advice for a happy marriage. 

"Don't leave. That's really it – two words," the Scream Queen said. "Because you will want to. If you're telling me anybody who's married for a long time hasn't thought 'I hate them, I want out,' of course they have! I believe if you stay on the bus long enough, the scenery will change!"

"I think it's crucial to put yourself in the path of love." Jamie Lee added.

In an interview with AARP, The scary movie icon described herself as "a deep, serious romantic." The actress told the outlet ways she expresses her love to her longtime husband. 

For their 35th wedding anniversary, the actress revealed to the outlet that she wrote her husband a song. Its chorus repeats, "I feel safe when I drive up and see that you are home."

Jaime Lee described the song's lyrics and how they reflect her marriage. 

 "That's the long marriage," she told the outlet. "It's the safety of knowing his car is in the garage, that I'm not alone, and that he's here."
