Jamie Lee Curtis has worked in Hollywood for decades, becoming a household name after roles in horror films like “Halloween” and comedies like “Freaky Friday.” Over the years, her career has pivoted as she has also become a film producer. In 2023, Curtis won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the blockbuster action sci-fi film, “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” However, even an actress of Curtis’ stature has felt the pressures of working in the industry.
She revealed how she got Botox at 25 after a photographer made a remark that left her feeling insecure. Curtis, 66, revealed that while on the set of the 1985 film “Perfect,” a cinematographer refused to take pictures of her because of her appearance, saying:
“He was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.’ And I was 25, so for him to say that, it was very embarrassing. So as soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery.”
It didn’t take long for her to regret the decision, and she spoke about how she was too young and the pressure to appear a certain way was strong.
“That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. And I regretted it immediately and have kind of sort of regretted it since,” she added.
The actress has since become an advocate for aging gracefully and embracing one’s natural beauty – a message she often shares in interviews.

Curtis revealed that plastic surgery had far-reaching implications for her as it led to her addiction issues.
“I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin,” Curtis told Fast Company. “I’m 22 years sober now,” she said at the time.
She added that while her addiction wasn’t always apparent, it was clearly a problem she was dealing with.
“I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate,” Curtis explained. “You know, drank a little bit … never to excess, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet, very private about it, but it became a dependency for sure.”
Now, the actress is encouraging other women to embrace the changes of time and understand their beauty without relying on cosmetic surgery, saying:
“I’ve become a really public advocate to say to women, you’re gorgeous and you’re perfect the way you are. So yeah, it was not a good thing for me to do.”
She added:
“The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty. Once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.”
Curtis was born into an entertainment family with famous Hollywood actors as parents. Looking back, she recalled how her parents got “facelifts and neck lifts” to reverse the effects of time. From this, she began to understand the anti-aging rhetoric prevalent in the industry.
“I watched their work diminish, I watched their fame not diminish,” said Curtis. “For the rest of your life, you’re famous for something you did a long time ago, and you chase that attention.”
