Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most beloved actresses in Hollywood. The “Freaky Friday” actress, 66, has had a long and remarkable career filled with many achievements. The past few years have been incredibly fulfilling for Jamie as she not only won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” but also celebrated one of the best milestones in her personal life.
Despite her celebrated career, her most outstanding achievement isn’t found on the silver screen – it’s in her battle against addiction. In 2025, the legendary actress, author, and advocate celebrated 26 years of sobriety, marking over a quarter-century of resilience, self-discovery, and unwavering commitment to recovery.
For many, Jamie is the embodiment of Hollywood royalty. As the daughter of silver-screen legends Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, she has fame in her veins, which led to an iconic career starring in classics like “Halloween,” and comedies like “Trading Places.” But behind the glamour and red-carpet appearances, she faced a deeply personal struggle with alcoholism and opioid addiction.
Her battle began in the late 1980s after a minor cosmetic surgery led to a prescription for painkillers. What started as a medical necessity spiraled into a silent dependence that lasted for years as she fell ever deeper into addiction. Jamie attended her first recovery meeting in 1999 and has stayed committed since. To celebrate 26 years of sobriety, the actress took to Instagram to share insight into her journey with fans.

In the post, Jamie shared a picture of herself smiling into the camera and detailing the positive news in the caption:
“This is what 66 years of LIFE + 26 years, 312 months, 9,498 days and 227, 913 hours of SOBRIETY FREEDOM looks like,” she wrote.
In a separate post, the actress shared a heartwarming story of her sobriety journey and the ways it has enriched her life, writing:
“26 years ago today I walked into my first recovery meeting. Since then, my life has completely changed. I have made beautiful, beautiful, friendships and it has expanded my life beyond recovery and it has given me the family life and creative life. I never thought possible.”
She also expressed gratitude to everyone who had been part of the ride, as well as others who have recovered from addiction for their courage, saying:
“To every person I have come in contact with who have shared their experience, strength and hope as it relates to alcoholism and drug addiction, I thank you for your courage and welcome and for all those who came before us, and for those who have followed, thank you.”
Jamie ended her post by informing her followers that the Palisades church where she used to attend her sobriety meetings burned down in the Los Angeles fires of early 2025. Still, despite the destruction of the church, she remained committed to staying sober and encouraged others to do the same. The actress shared:
“The little avatar in the picture of the street is in the the exact spot/ seat I sat in at my weekly meeting in the Palisades in a church that no longer exists, in a neighborhood that no longer exists, but we don't drink or use no matter what and this is a big f-----g no matter what. Be gentle with yourselves. ONE DAY AT A TIME!”
