Jamie Lee Curtis' dynamic acting career transcends over four decades. Curtis' breakthrough role came in 1978 when the then 19-year-old Curtis starred as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's horror movie classic "Halloween." Although the award-winning actress is heavily associated with horror films, her dynamic acting abilities have helped her create a diverse portfolio of hit movies across several genres.
With her extensive acting credentials, many would be surprised to know that Curtis was never nominated for an Academy Award, which many consider one of the highest honors that can be given to an actress like her.
However, when the nominations for the 95th Annual Academy Awards were announced on Jan. 24, 2023, Curtis was taken aback after finally scoring her first Oscar nomination at the age of 64.
Similarly, actress Cate Blanchett was also nominated at the Academy Awards for her role as Lydia Tár in the psychological drama film "Tár." Blanchett was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She is known for her films like "Cinderella," "Notes on a Scandal," "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "Thor: Ragnarok," "Ocean's 8, "and "Don't Look Up."
In an interview on Jan. 28, 2023, with People Magazine at the AARP 21st Annual Movies for Grownups Awards, Curtis revealed how she and her friend Blanchett celebrated the news of their nominations at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Both actresses are working for the first time together in their upcoming 2023 science fiction action comedy film "Borderlands."

In 2022, Curtis solidified her mark in the industry as she became part of one of the biggest films of the year – "Everything Everywhere All At Once" – in which she starred alongside Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu.
Quan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while Hsu and Curtis were both nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Yeoh, on the other hand, is in the running for Best Actress, going head-to-head with Blanchett in the same category.
The Best Supporting Actress nomination is Curtis' first-ever Oscar nomination, but as for Blanchett, it's already her eighth time being nominated for an Oscar, her fifth time in the said category, and if she wins, it would be her third.
Speaking to People Magazine, Curtis recounted that her friend Debbie Oppenheimer came to watch the nominations with her. She documented herself emotionally receiving the news on Instagram.
"THIS IS WHAT SURPRISE LOOKS LIKE!" she wrote on Instagram, along with photos of her reacting to the news. "The first is the moment of hearing my name, and then the thrill of my friend, Stephanie's name, and the rest of the nominations and then the best thing of all, a loving embrace for my husband."
As for how she celebrated her momentous nomination with Blanchett on the set, the two joyously ate it out in the best way possible – with cake!
"It was a shocking morning. Unexpected and delightful. And then I went to work on the re-shoots for Borderlands with Cate Blanchett, and she had been nominated that morning, as [had] our sound designer," Curtis recalled.
"So, we had a cake, and it was celebratory, but then we worked."
Congratulations to Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis on their nominations!
